I'm guessing they won't get compensated. They weren't guaranteed 3 matches, they were guaranteed a day of tennis. Which they got. If there isn't some caveat that weather, length of matches, etc. changes the deal, I'm a monkey's uncle.

You are right, no compensation. Here is the rule (verbatim).

"The AELTC reserves the right to change the programme without notice where it is reasonably necessary to do so. Tickets are for the court specified on the date shown and entitle the holder to entrance to that court and not to view any particular match or round of matches or any particular player. Matches may be moved from one court to another at the sole discretion of the AELTC."

Just in case anybody missed the Nadal/Muller highlights two posts ago, I thought I'd best post it again.

:lulz1:

BB, you are part of the cognitive dissonance that pretends not to have a fear of Nadal at Wimbledon, but is frankly relieved that he's out. And don't tell me it's just the pure hatred that makes you happy to see him out. Right?

Moxie take it easy. BB isn't gloating and you're being a little harsh on GSM too. I know you're pissed understandably.

I don't pretend to not have a fear of Nadal at Wimbledon and am relieved he's out. I tipped him for the final, even though I think Federer would beat him here this year. If Fed doesn't take him out then I'm happy to to see other players share the burden of helping him plan his next fishing trip. B-)

^Amen to that. Any day he loses is a good day but I try not to gloat about it especially after a brutal one to swallow like today. I think some of the "gloating" Moxie is on the warpath over is very light or completely in jest.

I'm just giving BB a hard time as an equal-opportunity for giving GSM one. (It seemed wrong to only give him the finger, when he was also obviously gloating.) I don't think I'm being too harsh on GSM, though. Even you called him "cold." I'm amused at you being the peacemaker after your recent hysteria and diatribes. Suddenly, you're much more relaxed. Why? Because Rafa is out. I'm not pissed because Nadal lost. If you'd been paying attention, a lot of us fans thought this round or the next would be his exit. I'm pissed at the rudeness, and the lack of communality towards those that would feel disappointed. I know we all give each other a good jab, but when there is real pain and disappointment, I don't think that's necessary.

I was joking around calling him a cold bastad. He made a pretty crazy prediction that turned out right. Not my style to brag about that but it's all good.

I'm always relieved when your boy falls. His island has been missing him for far too long. I suppose you're going to pretend that you don't want Fed to lose?

So you're both admitting to what I said: that you're relieved Rafa is out. As I said, sort of a cognitive dissonance, since you like to insist he's terrible on grass. Look, I think you both know that I can take it on the chin, but even you, Darth, said that you pulled back for the brutal one that this one was to take. (And @britbox, I was mostly just giving you shit for the sake of it.)
For sure I want Roger to lose before the final. That's a given. But I'm not going to post this: :dance2: when he does. (I don't know what happened to the emoticon for the weird dancer with the veil that GSM put up, but this one will do.) Because I know that people that I like are going to feel crushed. Is Schadenfreude really necessary, at such a point?

I'm happy and relieved when he loses any match. You know I want him gone from this sport yesterday :lightning:

Right, and you can be a dick about him, in general, but you weren't today, and that's my point.

I saw Müller with Rafa from 4 all in the fifth set.
I was impressed by GM, the way he kept his cool and his rate of conversion at the net, vastly improved this year.
He is riding a confidence wave since his victories on tour.

Interesing Stat:

# of games lost by Rafa in the entire RG17 =35

# of game lost by Rafa in the match against Muler = 34 (just one less).

Here's a very useful chart for the discussion of surfaces:

http://tennis-strangeforest.rhcloud.com/surfaceTimeline

2017 is the year to date, so not very representative. But in 2016, 58.4% of tournaments were hard courts, 30.2% clay, and 11.1% grass. Not sure where it is getting the 0.3% for carpet. Compare that to 1968: 6.4% hards, 4.7% carpet, 47.2% clay, 35.8% grass. Missing a few percentage points, but oh well.

Anyhow, it is interesting to note that clay has slowly but only slightly declined in its market share. Hards have risen substantially, taking most of carpet's share, which vanished a bit less than ten years ago (buh-bye). Grass declined sharply in the early years of the Open Era, then rose a bit in the 80s, then declined again. It actually has risen a tiny bit over the last decade or so.

Interesting stuff. I think a lot of the decline in grass courts is simply that they are a pain in the arse to maintain... and that's been fed up from the lower rungs into the pro ranks.

Does it put a smile on my face when Rafa exits a major yes. But I don't gloat. That kind of relish can come back and bite one in the ass. At this point I'm more interested in Fed cementing the GOAT status. Whether that means winning more GS's against Rafa or anyone else.
