Wow, amazing match. Congrats to Muller - what a performance. Now he's on to his first QF at a Slam, vs. Cilic. Gulp.

Not to be too gloaty...but I said before the tourney started that Nadal hasn't been past the 4th round in 5 years and I'd be shocked if he made it to the quarters this year. I'm just saying...grass has become his kryptonite. Roger can still play on clay and make the QF, SF or F - he just doesn't WANT to.

The most amazing attribute of Muller today, it is not even the serve, it is the poise that he had under pressure in the fifth set.

I also think it was the fact that he KNEW he could beat Nadal on grass - and he had nothing to lose. He has no legacy to play for.

Why didnt they put Novak's match on CC? seems unfair when Rafa's v Muller's match went so long.Novak will have to play his match tomorrow.

Well, this match basically just proves everyone wrong. In my case, just after I wrote that Nadal was easy to break these days (just after the second set), he would go on for about three hours without being broken.

I still think that is totally unfair, they had a chance to clear all the matches today.

This isn't Novak's first Slam. He's gotten bumped before. With the way it rains at the US Open? Please. Novak will be fine. He's playing Mannarino, for God's sake. That's a 90 minute training session at best.

This is hardly ground-breaking prognostication, Busted. But yeah, Rafa struggles on grass. I saw him as the second favorite, although picked him to be upset by Cilic in the Draw Challenge because of Rafa's "grass problem."

Hard not to see this as his last real chance at Wimbledon. I could see him opting out next year, like Roger did clay this year, to improve his chances at the US Open and second half hard courts.

Right now Rafa needs to just shrug it off and prepare for a return to hard courts. This isn't a huge loss for him - it doesn't tarnish his legacy, improve the legacy of his competitors (Roger and Novak), or bode poorly for the rest of the year - he's still playing the best he has in four years. Life moves on, and his sights are set on the US Open and WTF.

That is not the point, officials had plenty of courts, apart from CC,like court 1 to complete his match, regardless or not is will be a training session.Fair is Fair.

Even though Rafa lost, he should take heart. Unlike in prior years, he was not blown off the court.

In particular, Rafa served really well. Actually, in all statistical categories concerning serve, Rafa outdid Muller despite
Muller being known as the big server. Rafa had personal career high 23 Aces in a match today. His previous high was only 19.

In ACEs - DF differential Rafa was leads 21 to 20 of Muller. In first serve %, Rafa beats GM 67% to 63%. In points won of first serve it is a tie with both having 80%. In second serve points won, Rafa has a whopping lead of 60% to 48%.

Finally, Rafa won 7 more points than Muller in the match (198 to 191).

But, I am sure a month of fishing in Mollarcoa would relieve all stress of serving to stay in the match again and again.:fishing:

^ well, the Spanish Bull has done that twice already, and knows it would be a tremendous thing to do it three times, as he would tie the great Bjorn Borg by doing it thrice. Alas, it was not to be. I saw only a bit of the end of the fifth and I was surprised at how poised Gilles was in this match, in this setting. He looked in control of himself and was patiently aggressive when called for. Impressive by him. I though Nadal looked great too--he was pumped up and playing some classic Nadal points when down. I thought he would get into Gilles' head, except he did not.
