Now that that snoozer of a US Open men's draw if final - I bet the USTA is super pissed about Murray not pulling out before the draw was made. Kevin Freaking Anderson in the final of the US Open. I couldn't even be bothered to watch after Roger lost. Everybody and their dog knew Nadal would saw off his left arm if that's what he needed to do win - and it wouldn't be because the competition would roll over. And of course DelPo was never going to be able to follow up his big win against Roger because that's how these players are - they get pumped to play Roger and if then win then the next round they play like it's the first time they've ever held a racket.

Looks as if I was the only one to give Anderson credit for taking a set! I had no idea he would forget how to play tennis in a major final; sorta like Keys yesterday! Two rotten finals with decimated draws; how apropos! A really rotten end to a major season! :rip:

Not classic finals, but some of us don't think they were horrible outcomes. There was a certain attrition, but some interesting outcomes along the way.

It was so boring which I took a nap during the end of the first set..however as I said before it doesn't matter whomever sarcophagus laid before Rafa, A another grand slam title Counts no matter whomever the opponent was.

Omg Kevin, did you have to say it in front of millions that Rafa has been your idol all your life, after how you just rolled over?

Put in perspective, he has never beaten Fedal so it's just bs when someone told us how he could be tough for Rafa.

What was that woman saying to Rafa 'the 16th, they don't get any easier do they?' Such low jab slap to the champ.

Anderson was always going to be over-matched. But good for him for taking advantage of the opportunity that Sasha Zverev or Marin Cilic couldn't. (I never thought Zverev was ready, and that the pressure would be too much, but Cilic?)

Don't think you ever care how the tennis is, as long as your player wins.

Bs, you were the only one who said Kevin could be tough matchup for Nadal. Not the pedigree nor the record nor the result, what did you base it on?

Anyway I wanted Nadal to win the final or it would be a tragedy for him. However I wished for some good tennis and frankly was a waste of time. Kevin didn't serve well, missed routine forehands and backhands, he even missed smash given his height. There was nothing out of this match for us tennis fans.

Congrats to Rafa and his fans. I have always said, you play the draw and that is that. Credit to Anderson for making it to his first final.
Who knew this year Roger and Rafa would split the slams... They are both very special players in their own right.
Really happy for Rafa and his team...they all had a ton of pressure to recapture this title due to the decimated field due to injuries. MB..my long running battle is with herios who has been tryin to ursher in the previous next gen with the aid of Novak. I have posted for the past few years, if all conditions remain true(healthy Fed and Rafa) that they would rise to the top at the slams because they (plus Novak)are the most talented tennis players of today. However.,Fathertime will eventually become herios ally and the Fedal reign will be over in a few years. God help us all.

Congrats to Rafa and his fans on #16! Commiseration to all tennis fans for an atrocious slam. Easily the worst slam that
I have ever watched on the Men's side.

While I never had a doubt as to who will win, I was hoping that KA would give a better fight than that. KA should get the
big server with no brain award. When he has such a big serve and when the opponent is standing miles away, he should
come in after every serve and put it away in stroke. He was not coming in often enough and more than half the time he
was botching volleys and overheads when he came in. He was a nervous wreck right from the beginning. When the
match was about to start, he sat down for regripping his racquet. Come on, you are coming to play in a final and you
want to do that at the last minute.

That's pretty generous to Uncle Toni considering he hasn't done anything of note with anyone outside Rafa. I'd have Tony Roche as #1

I think helping Nadal develop his game from the limited one dimensional clay courter he was early on to a 16-time major winner trumps anything a coach has ever done.

To me his biggest problem was not so much not coming in after every serve (he's not a particularly good volleyer and Nadal would eat that up), but not playing proper 1-2 tennis. Even with someone as limited as John Isner, if you manage to put his serve back in play with a short return, he'll hammer down a forehand and try to end the point then and there. Anderson hasn't shaped his game that way (or at least, wasn't doing it here), and for a man his size whose only real weapon is his serve, that's a giant waste. Too many times was Nadal able to neutralize the point with his return despite how big Anderson's serve was, and despite the return not being anything special.

That AO win for Roger is even bigger in hindsight. Would have been 18-17. And Fed fans would be sweating.

I've been sweating for many years as Roger has underachieved a lot since age 28. There was light at the end of the tunnel coming into summer HC. Easy, dummy-proof plan was play Cincy, a tremendous tourney for him, as a huge favorite and then go to USO where he figured to be either a clear or heavy favorite. Then the worst happened at Montreal, a tournament he had no business playing especially with no practice leading up to it after Wimbledon. 20-15 would be game over, GOAT sealed. Now he still has work to do as 19 is great now but might be 2nd rate in a couple years if he stands still. Past time for him to become king of New York, wait till USO 2018 to see if he stops wetting the bed here. 5-3 at USO for Fed-Nadal is comical and the main reason that slam chase is close.
