Lost in the (understandable) focus on Roland Garros is the fact that grass season begins in three days, which means the return of Roger Federer! This thread is for Stuttgart, but the Ricoh Open is also starting on the same day, with a pair of top players (Sascha Zverev and Marin Cilic), but Stuttgart is a bit more packed.

Seeds
Roger Federer
Grigor Dimitrov
Tomas Berdych
Lucas Pouille
Steve Johnson
Mischa Zverev
Gilles Simon
Viktor Troicki

Also playing will be Tommy Haas, who received a wildcard.

Anyhow, it will be a nice little warmup tournament to see how Roger looks, and perhaps with the hopes of a final between him and Baby Federer.

It's like every time the grass season begins, it's my first time watching tennis on grass. Because I am so used to watching clay tennis.
Can't wait to see Roger on court. The grass in Stuttgart is always aesthetically pleasing.

Would love to see Federer v Haas. Hoping Tommy has a great final year on grass.

Fed has path according to seeds Haas/Herbert - MZverev - Berdych - Dimitrov

Would be disappointing if he didn't win the title tbh

Roger's first practice session at Stuttgart. Very short clip unfortunately with his old pal Tommy Haas. That grass looks lovely and fresh and Roger's got a fairly short new haircut.

Not a particularly strong field. I thought a few more would want to get into the grass court season as soon as they could.

I see Haas won in a tough triple setter. Their match will tell us a bit about where Roger is at right now. I hope I can catch a bit of it.
Haas vs Fed? If so that should be a good one, they have been practicing together..its funny Haas will see in Roger everything he was supposed to be. I would like to see him make it to the 2nd week if possible

Haas could very well beat Roger on any given day if Roger's level drops. Beat him in Halle 2012 (made me a nice whack of cash too as I had a sneaking feeling he was going to win it and had him backed outright to win Halle a year before. €100 at 75-1) and lost 6-4 in the 3rd in 2013. Granted this is 4 years later, but fast points and good serving is all it takes to win on grass.

I'd be pretty surprised if Tommy takes him here. I know Fed's played a light schedule, but Tommy is hardly on the tour radar these days.
