Thiem will serve for the bagel and the match.

Bye bye to the defending champ... what a difference 12 months makes.

Thiem was great, but I don't know what to say about Djokovic. He gave up a long time ago in that match.

I didn't see Thiem getting past Djoker either - intensity has been off the charts. He was similar against Nadal in Rome. Let's hope he retains it (he didn't in Rome) in the semis... (assuming he gets there of course, which is looking pretty much a done deal right now).

He will have a day off before the semi, so a good chance to be ready for the SF. It's hard to bet against Nadal, but hopefully Thiem will at least give him a good match. I will be rooting for him.

Still looking at the last three tourneys for Djoker it is SF at Madrid, final Rome and QF here. Not good of course but better than what he was doing from the Aussie through April. But I still think we aren't hearing anything from him until at least USO this year.

Nice win for Thiem and this time he has no excuse for being mentally drained. He didn't have much of an excuse in Rome after a straightforward win vs. Rafa. Let's hope he is still hungry.

Novak's head is still screwed up..I knew once Agassi left ..Djoker was gonna be a mental midget

The best thing for tennis is for Roger and Novak to meet in the quarterfinals or semifinals at Wimbledon . Novak won't tank a set against Roger..really sad to see Djoker just give up like he did today.

Never seen anything like this before..Annacone, Agassi all say it has nothin to do with tennis..That whole incident with the Bollywood actress may turn out to be a bit of black widow to Novak's tennis career at this point. That's sad..I am a big admirer of Novak's game.

Novak clearly has lost the incredible physical that he had before, why? who knows but he doesn't have the same elasticity neither, he remind more and more to Monfils but without injuries

AP, he just admitted in the press a couple minutes ago that after losing the 1st set, he thought he did not have a chance to win the match! (I am paraphrasing)

Here's the real quote:

"Hard to comment on third set. Nothing was going my way, and everything his way...but it was decided in first set."

With this loss, Djokovic is out of the Top 2 rankings since July 2011. For right now, Nadal is ranked 2 but it all depends on how Wawrinka and him do for the rest of the tournament.

If Wawrinka reaches the final, he will surpass Djokovic in the rankings. If he wins the tournament, he will be the number 2 player in the world.

Basically, if Nadal and Wawrinka meet in the final, it will be for the number 2 ranking.

Still grasping with how quick things can change in a year. Horryfic loss really, especially the fact that he gave up after the first set. This is a much more serious mental challenge than Nadal or Federer ever were facing.

This match shows just how much mental tennis is. Lack of fire causes the first player since Laver to win 4 GS in a row to turn into a GS participant.

Feel bad for Novak, what a difference to a year ago. Hard to believe how much he's fallen, he is striking the ball the same way, serving the same way, volleying the same way but overall he's a broken shadow of his peak form....shows how mental it is, no wonder some players have shrink in their team as a regular travel mate.

remains to be seen if Agassi is a good shrink.
