It's a fast court, so the question I have is - can Stan overpower Roger on this court? IIRC the US Open court in their 2015 was a bit slower than this one and Roger won that match. But, Roger has to serve and concentrate better than he did in Zverev match. I seem to recall some sketchy patches in last night's match...even if I was only half awake. :puzzled

1. Fed vs. Stan H2H 18-3.
2. Fed vs. Stan The Man H2H 5-2
3. Fed vs. Stan H2H 11-0 on Hard Courts.
4. Fed vs. Stan The Man 3-0 on Hard Courts.

Stan became Man when he won his first GS in 2014 at AO. The relevant H2H for "Stan The Man" consider only matches played since then.

The courts are fast and that will favor Roger. Roger's backhand has become solid and so it may be difficult to break for Stan. Stan won't have time to line up his shots. Fed needs to maintain his good serve. Otherwise things can become tricky.

The H2H with Nole was heavily in his favor as well, but Stan turned it around a few years ago, actually beating his rival in all 3 of his major wins; 2 in the final! Stan has got to get over his "bugaboo" playing his countryman; having a lot more game the last few years! On paper; Roger in a walk, but Stan's not the same player! I think he'll rise to the occasion!  :dodgy: :clap

I know people will say so. That is why I gave two different H2H figures, one vs. Stan and another vs. Stan The Man. Roger leads in both.

could the "young" Swiss beat the 'old" Swiss ??i hope so but he has to play well all match long, no stupid errors please Stan !!!

I hope not.. :D As long as Federer can maintain his high level of play from the previous rounds then I think Stan will have a bad day at work.

I hope of course that Fed can win this one. Stan has a history though of being unplayable when he goes on the run, so if you meet him late in a tournament, better be careful ...

I was live at their O2 semifinal, which was amazing. After that match, Fed had to withdraw from the final against Novak; let's hope that it'll be less draining for the winner this time around!

(And that Mirka doesn't call Stan "crybaby" again :laydownlaughing )

Looks like a sort of tough match for Roger on the cards. But that does not mean, he will necessarily let Stan have it easy! He is going to serve well for sure. Can't see him having a bad day after some good matches. And, if he is at his best, he should win in straights or 4 sets. A lot depends on the first few games. Stan can possibly come out bashing the ball. That can make the first set difficult for Roger. Barring that, Roger should get this done at least.

I hope Roger gets to the final. Bel18ve.

What's in his favour compared with e.g. Wimbledon 2016 SF is that he had a short match against Zverev after a tough R4, and also an extra day's rest before the final (if he wins tomorrow). So really fitness should not come into it hopefully.

Roger will lose. Does not want to meet Nadal in the final.

I think Stan's problem with beating Roger has been that Roger's got too many options. Plan A isn't working? Go to Plan B. Plan B isn't working? Go to Plan C. Plan C's not working? Combine elements of all 3 plans, etc. Stan has got one option - hit hard, rob Roger of time and hope Roger gets tired or is off his game and chokes.

Having said that - I still like Stan's chances. Roger's been out for 6 months and has played some scratchy tennis - especially in the early rounds. He could get tight and blow a great opportunity. It wouldn't be the first time. :nono But...I'm still taking Roger in 4. I think the court might be a little too fast for Stan.

:laydownlaughing If Stan can't take a little trash talking from the stands - opponent's wife or not - then he needs to grow a pair. I'm sure the 2014 French Davis Cup team would love to weigh in on the subject of Stan and trash talking. :snicker

Stan may have the game to beat Roger. But, surely he is not Rog's head. That fact and the spped of the courts are good enough to make Roger the favorite along with the speed of the courts.

Is there any evidence of this? I know there was the one incident against Klizan in the fifth, but I'm not aware of any pattern.

And there's a fine line. Generally someone at the net would be considered a legitimate target; in doubles I think it is a standard play to hit at them. Of course it is usually considered bad form when there are other options, and shouldn't be done with an intention of actually hurting them. I think the shot in the Klizan match, given the score at the time, can be considered as Stan just wanting to make sure of the point. I think it was Greg Rusedski who pretty much said as much afterwards, saying he would go down the middle too. :)

All that being said, certainly Stan shouldn't be such a crybaby if he gets heckled. :laydownlaughing

Yeah, Carol posted them both here yesterday. Clearly did it 100% on purpose against Klizan and Tsonga as both times (especially against Klizan) he had tons of court to hit into. He's a total pr1ck.

Stan doesn't deserve to have beaten Klizan. He couldn't play after that hard ball in the nuts and lost the next 2 games promptly.
