I like Pouille's movement and point construction. I think if he can condition himself better and work on getting that serve consistent especially the second serve that he could be quite dangerous. He has a great attitude and a lot of heart and gutsy at times.

1 ace for during a 4 hour match? I could do better, you brainless, ball-less pu$$y. Screw you and your defensive tennis. The idiot couldn't out hit LUCAS POUILLE. I truly never want to see you play ever again, I hope your wrist snaps in half and have to retire on the spot.

AND NOW LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE SCRIPT:
Monfils and POUILLE (OMG) in the quarterfinal will fight to the death only for a chance to bend over for mister world #1. Why show any courage when you really need to, right?

I don't understand why are you watching in the first place?

Why? I literally did this. Hey, I have time to watch Nadal's match, he is playing POUILLE, a young guy who hasn't proven himself on the big stages yet, Dullito was the overwhelming favourite. Ok, let's watch it. Here we go. And then he proceeds to play one of the worst matches I ever watched, worse than he did during the AO this year, about the same level as USO last year, just putting shots back into play.
It's for the best anyway.

Before Nadalites bring up wrist, knees, ribs, heart, lungs etc, let me say that Lucas did not defeat a crippled lame duck Rafa. Rafa was fully fit and running around like energizer bunny for 4 hours. No excuses, please. :nono

Rafa choked...his ridiculous tactic of standing that far back on ROS is so freakin outdated.,ignorant and self torturous ..I thought Lucus P was the 14 time career grand slam champion.. Rafa and his team had a absolutely NCAA Jr college approach to playing players besides Federer is astounding that he EVER win another title..What does Rafa have to loose..why he holds back is beyond reasoning..Rafa had no business ever loosing a set to this guy,..Monfils will beat the living horse manure out of this guy..Rafa needs a ReAl coach who played the game not some favorite Uncle..Damn:devil

Rafa didn't choke. Pouille took it to him.

Come on A-P, you're being unfair.

Firstly, old goats get nervous. Navratilova told us that centuries ago. And it's hard to imagine Rafa ever holding up on the big stage now, no matter how well he plays. It's a pattern, and it has little to do with style of play. He had a gimme forehand at 6-6 in the tiebreak and he shanked it, so it isn't style of play, it's between the ears. It happens. Happened to Pete too, Federer, all of them eventually are unable to stay steady in tight matches.

Secondly, Pouille is a kid of substance, played a great match and took his chances with panache. I enjoyed watching him, while wishing him all the evil under the sun, if you get my drift...

Rafa was not the only one to be nervous in the TB, even in this match. The very first point of the TB was an easy put away for LP and he missed it too due to nervousness. It happens and it is part of the game.

If several points were lost due to nervousness by both players, that would be good enough to call it a poor match. If several points were lost by one player, then you can say he choked. But, there were just three nervous misses in the TB that I can remember. I would say that is part of the game.

As I said earlier, sure Nadal missed a sitter of a shot to go down 6-7 in the TB but Pouille had just given him 3 points before that to lose all his match points so 1 back was a mild consolation. Pouille should've won it easier than he did but impressive match point winner too. A very entertaining player but needs to make the serve better and he'd be a very tough player for a lot of guys out there.

Rafa choked at 4-3, and serving with a break. It's now a pattern with hium. But in fairness to Lucas, he choked because the youngster wouldn't shut up and go away. Players are looking forward to matches like this with Rafa. I remember when McEnroe was getting older, he began to suspect youngsters loved playing him to claim his scalp. It made him feel old and vulnerable, not more defiant. With Rafa, it's a definite sign of decline, that he loses matches like this that he used to routinely win. He went how many years at a slam without losing in five?

The tiebreak was great, in the sense that it was dramatic and open-ended. Rafa broke first, then Lucas took control, then he tightened and Rafa had a knock-off forehand to gain match point - which he choked on - but then Lucas his a great winner on match point. It was good stuff, just a pity for Rafa that he couldn't squaek it out, because I felt that Lucas had brought better tennis out of him...

jMDP takes it to you..Djoker takes it to you.. Not Lucus P,..what sense does it makes to stand that far back to return his serve if you are not gonna cream the ball..to just top spin a ball to mid court..tell me one NCAA player who can't step in mid court and cream the ball to gain control of the rallie.. Everyone does it to Rafa.. F3, Feli, Stan even Berdych ..it's an outdated strategy..it will never prevail unless you on very slow hot high bouncing ball day

Actually that wide serve for Rafa was working well, out to Lucas backhand. It was the down the T one he couldn't hit. But out wide, he was getting great angles and Lucas was unable to control the rallies. But really, neither of them served great. Lucas couldn't get a first serve in, Rafa couldn't get a cheap point off serve. The match was hard fought in the rallies, and in these, I liked Pouille's aggression and confidence in coming to the net. And I thought Rafa clipped some great backhands, was getting depth on his shots. Had he been able to squeak it, this match would have benefitted him, but Rafa ain't winning the tight ones now. We had a great career out of him, so we can't hold that against him. Just glad to see him playing and enjoying it, and competing. Didn't expect that after Paris...

Well, Nadal is human after all. Besides, you do not really feel nervous until you get to that point.

I actually think the complete opposite. He has a great volley. Sure he missed a few, but who doesn't? Did you see that incredible stop volley where he held I believe to go up 6-5 or maybe it was when he went up 5-4? pavlik will hopefully have that in the highlights.
