What a tremendous effort by Simona, saving a dozen break points to win the second set?

This match is turning out to be more interesting than I thought it would be.

For the first time in the tourney, Serena loses a set. Let us see how she responds.

However, Serena is indeed playing good. It is just that Simona is amping it up. :clap

Simona has so far challenged six times and lost all her challenges. Approaching Roger's territory with challenges. :snicker

Glad that Darren is decent enough (unlike JMac) not to call the matches in which Simona is playing.

So far this match reminds me a lot of the Australian Open Serena vs. Kerber, and I remember then Serena's failure with returning.

Not quite that match. She lost the first set there and was behind all the time. This reminds me more of the Watson match at Wimby. Where she was completely dominating the match and then took her foot off the gas and became an UE machine until the tail end of the decider.

But, today it is not that Serena is not playing well in the second set. It is just that Simona found a greater gear (primarily pushing serena behind).

She played well enough GSM, but on the big points, she played like crap and that's why she couldn't break after 12 BP's.

I mean all those break points she and Patrick better work on that return especially for Pliskova should Serena make it past Simona.

Is it considered coaching from the stand when he tells her to challenge a call? He did it a couple of times

I think she just wants to get off the court now since she complicated this match

Yes she did. Had she taken the focus she showed this set and applied it to set 2 probably would have been a bit different.
