I thought Serena not playing a lot of tournaments this year was more in line with her being in self preservation mode with her body. She does need to get her forehand in order. I can understand the backhand today if she was injured, but her forehand has caused her many unnecessary errors this year.

If I recall correctly, you were the one that was a bit dismissive when I clearly stated that of all the slams , RG would be the most difficult first Serena particularly based on her recent playing. However you felt her record on clay was superior to the other surfaces.

I liked her chances and she did have a good shot at this title. She ran into a better player today. I never said her record on clay was superior to the other surfaces. However, if you look at her recent play she has a better clay court record than pretty much everyone currently on the WTA tour other than maybe Maria, and that to me means she had more than a fair shot at the title. I mean 3 out of 5 RG finals in the past 5 years since her return in 2011 isn't something that should be so readily dismissed. Does she have her difficulties here clearly, but she has also shown she can overcome them just as well.

Serena is struggling with a finals mental block...especially after last year wins and failing at the Open. This year reminds me of 2004 when the russians went on a tear winning everything...#olympic year...the fact that she reaches finals and fails thats a mental block she needs to work out with someone..2008 she struggled a lot until USA Open..I still feel she will retire on a high note, these losses are disheartening but her legacy is intact...no one can take that away from her not even Kerber or Muguruza...everyone knows RG has a history of churning out one hit wonders....her loss at the Open is still affecting her she needs to talk to a sports psychologist.
Muguruza s ego will go sky high now...she looks like she wants to be the next pova..all the grunting, posturing and everything..

Agreed with Sunday morning and your thoughts, today's finals was won by the better player just like when Kerber won AO. SW19 will be an important phase in Serena career, if the big serve is working, she may be holding the champion ship trophy

I mean who was I supposed to think would win the title. Serena despite her finalitis has been the steadier player versus everyone else. I would have considered Azarenka, but she got injured yet again. Halep, Kerber and even Muguruza up until now have been yo-yos. I hope Serena comes on very strong at Wimbledon. I am proud of Serena for keeping her composure and playing strong through 4 straight days of play. I have my doubts that few others on the WTA side could do the same to get to that point.

Aza has such a mental block, I'll never bet on her again; even years down the line when Serena's old and grey! :cover :nono

I think she has more injuries than she is letting on...Muguruza is already going into war of words with Patrick. She better watch her mouth because if other players notice a bit of ego they will go after her.I used to like her but after that Indian Wells situation her ego has gone through the roof...
Serena will be aight...she could have retired years ago and still considered a legend.

there is a lot of fresh blood in WTA..the only veterans are Venus,Serena and Hingis the rest are newbies...how come you are not asking for new blood in doubles because Hingis and Mirza are clearing everything or Djokovic winning everything...you never ask for newbies on ATP..Serena is a 34yr old and these newbies struggle with her is that her fault..:snicker...this year might churn out one hit wonders...if pova was there Muguruza will not have won.

I was looking at the stats for this match and the thing that cost Serena the match was those pesky break point conversions yet again. Her stats are actually more positive than Muguruza's aside from failure to convert.

I believe her injuries are more than she is letting on...plus she never had a break from 4th round whereas Muguruza had lots of breaks. This event was tailormade for Muguruza, remember Sumyk is french.Garbine never used to play on Chatrier all the time then all of sudden she was there everytime and then Suzanne Lenglen because Bertens had to have a chance..even Halep who had reached the finals was relegated to the outer courts...she benefited from favoritism in scheduling because of Sumyk.
I have turned off Garbine because her ego has balloooned even before this win....that guy from IW really inflated her ego.She started acting like pova, the grunts, posturing, staredowns and superiorty complex..:popcorn
thats why I like Kvitty and Wozniacki.. they are the most humble of these younger players

I wouldn't go that far. It just goes to show you can have better stats, but if you falter at key moments you screw yourself, and Serena is veteran enough to know she has to be careful at the 4-4, 5-5 mark of matches.

I was out of town this weekend, but saw the replay on DVR. I said she had to serve well to win and she really didn't do that. Garbine has an issue w/ DF's and weak 2nd serves. Serena had chances to bag the first set, but lately she is a bundle of nerves which makes her a tentative mess. I said getting 22 would be difficult and it has turned out to be that way. It took her 3 tries before she tied #18. I think it's going to take just as many or more before she gets 22. Wimby would be the best place as she wouldn't have the pressure of playing on home soil at the USO again.

The problem is the more she loses in finals, the more confidence she gives the locker room. People know she's vulnerable now and they feel like all I have to do is show up and play one great match in the final and I can bag a big title.

false, I want some newbies on ATP too, I love to see Zverev Thiem, Krygios etc....even if I love both Murray and Nole, I'm always happy to see new talents

Big fan of Miss Muguruza---a helluva sweet young lady with a fearless approach on court. Her movement is better than Masha's ever was and she has more power than Sharapova, even on the service I believe. More importantly, she seems less intimidated by Serena than Maria ever was since 2004 Wimbledon. It will be interesting to see how she and Serena tangle over the next few months, because the bell has rung and the Spaniard is out of the gates! Ole!

Muguruza is another pova ...just hope and that she is clean ,because players can do anything to beat Serena.Henin had to get into an oxygen tank and train to get that bionic arm,Kim had to come back with baby hormones raging in her body to beat Serena, pova had to take meldonium,Jankovic tried getting muscles.Kerber had to talk with sports psychologist and Steffi Graf to beat Serena....Azarenka had to steal a Serena insider to beat her...Putinseva had to recruit Hingis to try to beat Serena...Muguruza studied over 100 videos of Serena to beat her...

Must have worked since she's the FO Champion this year; the replay going on right now! Looks like she's 6'4", but stats say she's only 6'; quite statuesque and beautiful! She could be a model; nice shape from top to bottom! Roly Poly Williams is another story who needs a lot of help to look her best! :nono  :dodgy: :cover

Muguruza has no star power:nono..she is aight but no star power or personality...there are a dime a dozen girls on tour who look like flat screen Garbagine.Serena has lots of personality, charisma ,star power and influence...if you talk of beauty talk about Ivanovic or Kvitty.
her team is desperate for her to get American fans, encouraging her to insult Serena to get attention from Americans or play Venus in an exho...desperate much and apparently no one likes her in the locker room..
