Picking the winner of the first Grand Slam of the year, personally is the hardest.Wawrinka is the defending Champion,Novak is always hard to beat on slower HC surfaces,he has a great record at the Australian Open.In saying that players are only playing smaller tournaments to get practice in,so I dont take a lot of notice regarding form in ways.

I will wait till the draw comes out, usually the players that make it in the business end of a slam, the second week are the one's I keep my eye on,I feel they have the best chances to make it to the final.

I hope Rafa can get a easy draw :p

Easy draw? Hmmm, did he not have an Aussie junior qualifier going against him at Wimbledon last season? What would you like them to do, maybe drug his opponents water to slow them down to accommodate Rafa? :puzzled :dodgy: :speechless:

Oops, I forgot to add that Aussie junior to the "curse list", what else he has done? :devil

In regards to Rafa's current ranking,it was a pity he could not defend his 2 titles and his USO title,Roger happened to be in the right spot at the right time when this happened to Rafa, thus taking the No 2 spot.
Rafa is not in his prime years anymore,he will be concentrating on Grand Slams, hopefully he can get his 10 title at Roland Garos later in the year.In regards to the AO,I would love Rafa to win this year, then he would have to channel Jim Courier's feat in 1992,he was the last player to win both the AO and RG.

I don't know who he's beaten to get there, but Nick Kyrgios is currently #50 in the world! That's kind of impressive; esp. coming out of Australia! They haven't been a power in decades; poor things! I appreciate their legacy, but that's all it is unfortunately; A Legacy! Hewitt got the most out of his game to take 2 majors and make his mark as #1 for well over a year, but there just wasn't much else to make note of; anybody? OTTOMH, that's all I got for him; 1 Wimbledon, 1 USO! They really haven't been the same since Hopman died I guess! Cash got the one Wimbledon, but had so much more promise! I hope this new kid keeps it going and moves up even more; Aussies deserve it! :dodgy:

Tp put things in perspective with Nick he only won 10 matches on tour in 2014,the reason his ranking is what it is at present was because of his good showing at Wimbledon.

I have not any idea what will be his future as player (Kyrgios) and if he will get important titles or not but I dubt that he will repeat those 39 aces in just one match. That day he played excellent, he would have beaten to anyone. I agree that Aussies deserve to have better players but maybe the young ones even they have talent also they need to work harder, more sacriface and more consistent which is the only way to reach achievements and the top of the mountain :dodgy::idea::angel:

Me too.

I hope Rafa gets some one ranked 127, aged 34, father of two children and who has already announced his retirement, in the first round. :devil

Time to gloat. See my prediction in this thread made on 28th Dec. 2014. :lolz:

Thanks gsm that was an entertaining read. AP predicted 3-4 slams for Rafa, that didn't exactly work out.

Rafael wins 3 of 4 slams.

Just quoting this post to highlight the irony of A-P having the audacity to ever question anyone's tennis knowledge based on a wrong prediction.

This guy, with a straight face, predicted a potential calendar slam for Nadal. Interesting how he hasn't dared show his face since Rafa lost. If only he'd done the same earlier it would have saved us a week of garbage posts.

I predicted Rafa and Nole would account for 3 slams. If Novak wins the USO, does that count as right? I also pedicted another "newish" slam winner. Does stan count as "newish"?

Well, sorta. ;) You do get points for actually making a prediction and technically, you weren't wrong. :p

While A-P's prediction regarding Rafa was utterly ridiculous, you were not a whole lot better either because I am quoting from your prediction "I think Djokovic, Nadal and Federer will dominate".
We all know how that worked out, you were not off regarding Djokovic, but your boy did not come anywhere close. But of course, nobody predicted Rafa's downfall and even GSM who was right about Rafa going slam less, probably did not expect him to be unable to make even a SF at a slam.

Djokovic wins AO over Murray, Wawrinka gets to the semis.

Wawrinka wins RG (wanna bet?) over Djokovic, Nadal loses early

Djokovic wins over Federer at Wimbledon

USOPEN I am not sure, both swiss on the semis, maybe Djokovic and Cilic too

And people will be fooled by trickster impostors....

I am so good on this that I almost can't believe it...
