Their head-to-head is in Pennetta's favor, 5-4. Ironically, the last time they played was two years ago -- wait for it! -- at the US Open. Flavia won 6-4, 6-1.

Who wins?

EDIT: The poll is multiple choice in case you want to include the fifth option. ;)

I won't be around to watch it (on my way to the White House), but go Flavia. Retire w/ a slam in your pocket like Sampras and Bartoli did. :clap Then go make some pretty babies w/ Fabio. :D

Hopefully, no head-case babies. :snicker

Odds are

Pennetta 4/9 and Vinci 7/4

Approximately 70% chance to Flavia and 30% chance to Vinci.

After the high of win over Serena, Vinci sure to come down to earth.

Besides, Flavia is a former IW Champion.

Go Flavia!

Can we have Sarah Errani as the chair umpire and Francesca Schiavone as the line umpire. :puzzled

Pennetta in 3. I could see her retiring if she wins a la Bartoli. :)

Just read on a Japanese site that the tickets for the women's fall dropped 83% after Serena's loss. :cover

I heard on NPR this evening that the scalpers were selling the final tickets for $1420 before the second semi was over and after that it dropped to $680 (roughly 50% drop).

Ive never actually seen these two play each other. Vinci's style bores me usually. I'm going with Pennetta because she's been in later stages at A LOT of random points in her career. Although... I really could care less about this final.

vinci on the right looks like the actress out of 'invasion of the body snatchers' (1978 remake)

which is sort of ironic seeing as yesterday she stole the body of somebody that is capable of beating serena and reaching major finals. :devil

Either one will look like an unlikely slam champion to me. But Pennetta has had the better singles career of the two, so I hope that she will win it. Not that it would bother me if Vinci would win. I'm always happy for the winner of a slam, no matter who it is. Having said that, it's just a weird final imo. It's like having a Fognini vs Seppi final on the mens side.

It's one of the oddest, surprising, unexpected finals (Ve ever seen. It feels like a French Open final that accidentally ended up in the US Open.

But Pennetta just won Indian Wells last year so she had the potential. Vinci being there is just another Cilician, rip-in-the-time-space-continuum, other-dimensional, invasion-of-the-body-snatchers thing. Bizarre.

Pennetta's serve can be very good or very bad and that may well be the clincher. If she serves well she should win pretty easily imo.

4 unforced errors for Pennetta to begin. Woeful.
