I was watching the scores board for the 2 Canadians, and it was reflecting to me, the big mental gap between Milos and Vasek.
Vasek was a break up on Richie in the third at the beginning, then he got broken back and when serving 4-5 down, he could not serve out the game and got broken for good Argh.
Milos on another hand, when RBA was serving 4-5, he broke him at 15 and won his set.
At the end of a set you have to be mentally shaaaarp!!!!

Karlovic has NO ground strokes, volleys adequately and is NOTHING without his serve. Rafa's won the last 13 of 14 points... can break him here for the set. :snicker

7-5 to Rafa

As others have mentioned it, the prize money paid off makes this event very attractive. And the players love coming here, because how they treat them. El Dude sounded more like sour grapes, just look up what he mentioned on the first page: "Finally a real event".

Tedious, herios. Why make this kind of assumption? What's the point?

You seem to misunderstand what I said, or just wanted to translate it as sour grapes for whatever reason. I maintain that it must be hard for Roger to maintain motivation after his big losses, and that Shanghai - relative to the Slams and some of the more prestigious Masters events and WTF - seems like small potatoes. Yes, it is a "real event," but it isn't a Slam or the WTF, and those are the tournaments Roger probably really wants (and can't seem to have).

Struggling to find motivation was probably a big factor, I agree with you E.D.

Watching after the final of the U.S. Open and seeing Fed's face when he didn't think the lens was on him - I said to my father, "This one gutted him." He had 90% of the drunken New York crowd loudly in his corner. He played stellar tennis to get to the final. And he had his chances to make the match his. He can say, "I'll be back next year.", but he has to be wondering if he'll be able to get that close again.

So far, not bad from Rafa. If we watched this match 2 years ago, we'd think, what crisis. Sometimes he's a bit static and cautious in the rallies, but he's finding the right aggression when he needs it, especially that 0-40 game at 4-4. Now, he's up 6-5 again: have a Kitkat, have a break...

Things get interesting as IVO takes the second set.

I looked up the H2H today and in all 3 matches Rafa won up to today, Dr Ivo always managed to win a set, it seems the trend continues.

When you watch Milos, you have to keep your feet in cold water...
He leads in the deciding TB 5-1, then RBA gets back to 5-5, Milos goes up 6-5 and he converts the first MP on RBA's serve....

I need a shower now:snicker

Raonic able to get it done in three. Thiem and Lopez are going to a third. Wish we could see that one, instead of the giant and the bull.

Rafa's such an idiot! Jumping around like that; you'd think he hadn't won 14 majors! It's a 2nd round match and he's ecstatic I guess! Such an embarrassment! "GROW UP kid!" :p :cover

Jzzz, thank God the match has finished, it was a torture watching those torpedos. Rafa serve and returns was much better than these previous months and also his 'head '

Now he goes up against Raonic, another big server (with better groundstrokes).

It looks better to jump all around after a win that to put an idiot face like Roger after a loss :D

Yup, he has the toughest draw, if he would survive against Raonic then I will say that he is getting closer and closer of his best but he still will have to show much and better wins
