With this win, Andy Murray joins Djokovic and Federer as the only players to win a hardcourt, clay and grass titles this year. Pretty interesting stuff...

As much as Murray's second serve is maligned, Murray's first serve has considerably improved in the
last couple of years. He needs to keep the first serve percentage high (as he did today) to win matches.

Also, Murray proved today that he can physically and mentally stay in the match (this quality in him was suspect) despite it going for 3 hours.

Suspect? really? in which way? Muzz has probably the stronger legs of the whole Tour (not his mind) he used to play very long matches until he get his back injury/surgery which made him to play like in a rollercoaster but he looks now to be physically in very good conditions again and ready to play for hours

I would say that this match showed me that when Murray truly digs deep down, he could beat anyone on the tour. It also showed me that it takes a lot of mental effort to beat Novak Djokovic these days.

It is the reason on why I enjoyed this match. They both showed their mental resiliency even though they were physically spent in the 3rd set.

Hopefully, Murray can continue playing this type of mental resiliency throughout the year.

it was an excellent match. a slightly more attacking murray and even djokovic meant it was.nt the tennis pong of 2013 and before, in fact the attacking shots made the spells of occasional tennis pong more enjoyable..variety.

the swings in match dynamics also helped, as did the fans, creating a good atmos. and murray really needed to beat djokovic after 8 defeats in a row.

Such an important win for Murray. Whatever happens in Cincy, he can now go into the USO with some confidence. Djokovic is still going to be tough to beat there, but the USO sure did get a whole lot more interesting.

That 18-minute game at 3-2 in the third set where Murray fought off ten deuces and 6 break points will stay with me for a while. Awesome match and even greater since my favorite won. Time to win another Slam Andy! :clap

Good match, Andy played with conviction from the start so I actually felt throughout the match that he'd get it done. Obviously Nole wasn't at his best but the reality is that this has to be the case for anyone to beat him at present.

Congratulations Andy, nice way to celebrate the announcement of a little Murray on the way, and the arrival of a little Amelie as well! Something in the water in the Murray camp....

I think winning the first set made a huge difference for Andy. The pattern of their matches this year (apart from Indian Wells) has been that Novak wins a hard fought opening set then Andy has to invest almost all he has to level the match and finally goes away after a few close games at the beginning of the decisive set. This time he won the close games at the start of the third instead as he might have had more left after not having been in need to put everything into the second and was just able to hold on to that lead by especially serving well and hitting some brave shots at the break points. Showing that with a high level of execution he can outlast Novak playing above average will probably help him a lot mentally.

But it also wasn't a bad way for Novak to lose out on his winning streak against Andy in my opinion. The tournament itself wasn't too significant for him and though definitely not being at his best he fought and played well enough to still enter futher matches against Andy confident and reasonably feel alright about his game after the post-Wimbledon-break.

Yeah, for both of them. That was the sarcasm there.

I personally think Andy might win one against Novak for once, especially since Novak's complaining he has a dodgy arm.

yes, he usually does complain whenever he looses a set during the match :)
