I'm torn. I would love Lucy to win one. Get one over on Berd-man :) But I also want Serena to go past Graf's record. It really burns me that she has that record :devil

Here is a paragraph from an SI article about 2014 seedings.

"This year, the women's seedings follow the WTA rankings, meaning the AELTC felt no need to shuffle the seeds. Interestingly, the committee applies a much more arbitrary set of criteria to the women than the men. While the men's seedings are based on a very specific formula (ATP points + grass court points from the last 12 months + 75 percent of grass court points from the 12 months before that) the women's criteria is less than clear. The committee simply uses the WTA rankings "except where in the opinion of the committee, a change is necessary to produce a balanced draw." That's an odd and seemingly unnecessarily disparate set of criteria."

Given Azarenka's results at Wimbledon I doubt they will tinker with her seeding as it would be hard to justify.

What an amazing feat Serena will have accomplished if she wins tomorrow.

Wow the hatred on those other message board for Serena is unbelievable. Once before champions were compliment for they dedication to their sport whether they play ill or healthy, but when it comes to Serena it's a different ball game. Unbelievable.

even players are joining in..especially the lower ranked.I remember when she won AO15 Karlovic sent a tweet dissing Serena and a lower ranked player from Australia joined in and quickly deleted her tweet..its from all levels of the tennis world and if she beats Steffi record one can only imagine..:popcorn..remember when Janowiz hit Serena at the net during Hopman..never apologized and were laughing with Aga.. unbelievable.

Chris Fowler said that even though Serena has the flu, she cannot take the medicines that you and me take as it results in positive drug tests. She is just trying to cure it by rest and taking vitamin C apparently.

So, Cilic's cough drops may be a real story.

Even Chris Fowler claims that Serena was not all that ill, but he kept repeating how ill maria was. SMH.

Why do you care what someone else has to say? You saw w/ your own eyes that she was sick. That's all you need to know. Who cares what someone else says about a player who isn't even in the tournament anymore?

She is currently ranked at around 27. I think the Wimby folks will bump her up inside top 24.
That will be a minor bump which will be justifiable. At the same time, that will make sure that
Vika will not face a top 8 seed in R3. In R3, seeds 1-8 are matched with seeds 25-31 and
seeds 9-16 play against seeds 17-24.

I think it's okay that Serena skipped the press conference. As you said earlier, she's not able to treat this flu with over an over the count box of Cilic, er, cough drops, so she's most likely tucked up in a posh hotel suite hugging a hot water bottle and a glass of Jamesons...

If Safarova does not succumb to nerves, she has a chance against an ill Serena.

I love Lucie's game. So solid in every department. She is the player I told my daughter to model her game after, being a lefty. I will be sad to see her lose, but also sad to see Serena not get number 20. I want her to eclipse Graf.

Well, now that Serena's sickness has become public, Lucie will have time to prepare her mentally to play against a sick player too. She should realize this is not the time for sympathy.

I remember one match in which Daniela Hantuchova could not cope up with Serena's injury
and was so focused on what is happening at the other end and let it affect her game and lost the match.
