Kvitova meltdown commencing... Sugarpova takes 2nd set 6-4. On to the third and on to bed if I want to live thru tomorrow.

Looks like Sugarpova has this one. Her ability to bear down after losing the first set is amazing. If Kvitova had half the mental strength of MS, she'd have 5 or 6 slams by now.

if pova had that strong mind she wouldnt lose to one player for ten years 18 times...Petra just beat pova a few days ago and demolished her at Wimbledon..
Petra doesnt need to scream or do all the antics to get attention..they are almost at the same level and Petra is just likeable...lots of players have good three sets record...Mauresmo was very good in three sets,Clijsters was also good...before injury Azarenka was unbeatable in 3 setters...#nothingspecial

Nah, that's just a Serena-Maria thing. Against all others Sugarpova is a beast. I wonder how many slams she would have won if Serena had not been around. About 10 maybe. Anyways, don't see CZE coming back from this.
And time to look for another WTA to root for. Kvitova is so great to watch when she's on, but knowing what she can do, matches like this just make you go huh? Maybe I should just stick with my USA-Japan players. lol

Sorry, not yet. But I don't see them coming back now. I'll be very surprised if they do. Pavlyuchenkova should be able to be Pliskova.

:snicker...Kvitty can be maddening at times and when she is on she demolishes anyone in her path...just think mono has affected her..pova is beatable just think she is overrated...she has losses against a number of players like Ivanovic,Kerber,Lisicki,Gavrilova,Wozniacki,Pennetta,Giorgi and others...she is not all that as the media wants us to believe.
hopefully Karo will beat Pavly..:popcorn

Pliskova wins. It is 2-2 now. The doubles will decide who gets the trophy.

Wow. Pliskova saves the day. She beats Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-4, and then for reasosn I don't know yet, she is teamed up with Strycova and defeats Pavlyuchenkova/Vesnina 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to steal the Fed Cup away from the Russians. This is the Czech Republic's 9th Fed Cup, second only to the USA's 17 titles.

If you look back over the span of their careers, Serena wasn't Maria's only problem. If you look at the 2005-2008 years and even during the 2009-2011 years Maria really wasn't able to even make a dent when Serena was out with injury, had poor fitness, or was knocked out by players lesser than herself and Maria at times. So, I am not so sure that even if Serena retired tomorrow, Maria could and would take full advantage. She certainly didn't take advantage in 2014 as well with Serena out for the count in most of the slams.

Kvitova is a puzzle and not in a good way. The score lines that she achieves win or lose are borderline ridiculous.

Maria does have a problem with injuries. But Serena matches aside, she has a fighter's mentality that I wish Kvitova has some of. Or maybe I'm just being fooled by the banshee screams. lol

Oh, I'm not denying Maria is a fighter there are some matches she should have lost and didn't because she kept chugging along, but my point was more to your point about how many slams she would have had if Serena hadn't been in her way. There were a number of times where Serena wasn't in her way, and she still fell short.
