So nervous for this. Andy is starting to play like he's 'back' this year but if he goes out to Berdych it's not much of an improvement from last year's slam results even if a semi final does look better.

I'm not saying a loss will be the end of the world but if Andy wants to get back to winning slams he does really need to be at least reaching the final here when he hasn't had to face Rafa, Roger or Nole to get there.

Berdych is leading in the poll right now. Interesting. That's a straight set win with a bagel added just for fun will do for confidence in the fans.

Berdych is playing well this tournament but if we think that because he beat Nadal in three sets then he is able to reach the final I have my dubts or better I should say he is going to lose against Muzz, why? because Nadal played awful in all the ways so he made Berdych to play and to look much better than really he is.
Muzz is going to put him back to the earth:chillout:

There is also the other side of the equation: How much did Berdych's good play handcuff Nadal and make him look bad? It's never either/or but always some combination of the two. I hope your bold prediction about Muzza winning is as accurate as our picking Rafa in four. ;)

If you watch tennis often you should know and observed like Rod Laver, commentarists and many tennis followers that Rafa played worse than ever and he has played before against better players than Berdych and more difficult matches having much better results winning or losing
Again, Berdych is playing well but Muzz is playing better than him. Anything could happen but I give to Muzz a 90% as winner :popcorn

If you read the posts during the match, you'd see that I commented on how poorly Rafa looked. It wasn't lost on me. Tomas is playing some of the most composed tennis I've ever seen from him, not just great shot making. We'll see what happens this evening.

I agree with your assessment about Murray. I think if Murray wants to return to being a top contender and return to the Top 4 rankings, he NEEDS to win this match. And I think he will win this match. He looks very sharp and his movement looks outstanding right now. It looks like the offseason training is paying dividends right now.

I really have no clue who is going to win this one. I will be thrilled if Berdych wins but... I'm not worried, still thrilled that he walloped Nadal so thoroughly but beating Murray is a real toos up. If Berdych can keep up his play, he has a real chance.

I agree it was impressive at 5-5 in the tie-breaker the way Berdych got the mini-break to go up 6-5.
Nadal came back from 1-5 to tie it at 5-5 so it looked like Berdych was about to lose it, but he didn't.

Here's another incentive for Murray: If he wins tonight, he will be the number 4 player in the computer rankings this upcoming Monday. That means the Big Four will take the top 4 rankings since November 25, 2012. That's actually pretty remarkable that the Big Four has not taken the top 4 spots for 2.5 years.

In addition, if Murray wins the title, he will be number 3 in the world and Nadal would drop to 4 in the world. So there is a lot of incentives for Murray to win the title.

Andy's second serve on the first point! :eyepop :cover

EDIT: We'll see if Kieran's observation that he's never seen someone win a match after DF'ing on the first point holds true.

Yeah, he's a great umpire.

I don't think the QF with Rafa indicates much, except that the form that Berdy had in his earlier matches is still with him, and in the third set he was able to close it out. But it's not a match that we can look at and say he's any different to what we already know of him. He can only show that he is by holding up under pressure and winning a huge match, such as this one...
