Serena's side of the draw is stacked: Svitolina, Mugu, Cornet, Caro, Petra, Petko, Flavia, Venus, Sloane, Sam, Vika, Taylor and Aga.

We all knew that Cornet and Caro was going to be on Serena's side of the draw. She's the only #1 player who ever gets a tough draw Maria on the other hand just sails right through...all I can do is shake my head.
Not quite Special. Serena's draw at last year's USO was easy. She didn't face a top-ranked player until the final. But you conveniently forgot about that slam I see.

^ Sam faces a tough first rd opponent in Monica I just hope she is ready. When I was last at the AO,Sam got out in her 1st rd match,I found her sitting on the concrete floor not far from the media, with tears in her eyes, believe me I felt for her.

Well a very top heavy draw. If Ana or Maria don't at least make the semis, well....Seems Serena better be focused early and get whatever kinks were in her game out quickly. Ouch for Caroline if she is having wrist problems and the draw she has.

All the players I hoped would not be on Serena's half landed there. I will be happy if she won, but I am not picking her. Pova got lucky with the draw. Not many who can trouble her.

That's the way the cookie crumbles mate. So far in Oz, Serena has not found or played anywhere near her best tennis. If that should continue, it could be a very open women's field.

Well, Serena could also come out and do the opposite since she knows she played like crap at Hopman's. In a way, what Serena has displayed so far tennis wise 2015 should put less expectation on her than say others.

And of course Caroline has to meet Serena - well think I'll do something desperate - or maybe not - can she win this she can go all the way.

Do you remember the Petra's 3rd round with Venus in Wimbledon? It's not always a bad thing to have a though draw.

Top 10 BEFORE Australian Open - 2014 results ripped - you can then just add the points along the way as every point is added.

1 Serena Williams USA 7776
2 Maria Sharapova RUS 7095
3 Petra Kvitova CZE 6305
4 Simona Halep ROU 6141
5 Caro Wozniacki DEN 4495
6 Ana Ivanovic SRB 4415
7 Aga Radwanska POL 4030
8 Eugenie Bouchard CAN 3935
9 Angelique Kerber GER 3120
10 Andrea Petkovic GER 2770

So 4 players can end as #1 after the Australian Open - of course more or less teoretical.

Tough top half. Im still curious to see what happens on the bottom. I think Simona is hungry to beat Sharapova if the both get that far. Maria played really well in Brisbane, usually the way she plays before a win. Still she usually has an off day early in a slam and quite often goes out to someone below her. Lets see what happens in the first week. I don't really know how far she can go.

I think Townsend will take a set off Caro but she's not ready to win that match. She still isn't really a closer. If Vika makes it to round 2 I still pick Caro. Vika hasn't had enough match play.

Isn't that always the case with her. That is not luck those draws given to her.

You're right...The entire tennis world is a part of a vast conspiracy for Sharapova and against Serena. That's why Serena has only won 18 grand slams and not 50.

Yes and she had to fight tooth and nail for everyone of them. No one made it easy for her like they do for "other" players.

If you look at Serena's draw most of the players who has beaten her last year or gave her a hard time is on her side of the draw. Now go ahead and tell me that the draw was not rigged. It happens all the time, if a player beat Serena you can bet your life that that player will be on her side of the draw. Research it and you will see. Now on the other hand if a player beats maria that player is far, far, far away from maria in her next tournament or slam. Prove me wrong.
You really need to stop it. The draw is not rigged. The reason those players gave her trouble is because she wasn't playing well and lost. So now, it's the slam tournaments fault that Serena didn't play well and had several uncharacteristic losses? The #1 player in the world needs protection from the lowly ranked Cepelova, Cornet and Muguruza. Do you see how silly that all sounds? Tented asked you earlier to refrain from this topic, but you insist so I'll spell it out for you.

It's not our job to prove anything to you. Stop insinuating and assuming. YOU, bring the facts to support your claim. Without doing any research, I can tell you that Ana beat Serena in AO and Serena didn't face her at another slam all year. If they're really protecting Sharapova at every slam, like you claim, why has she only won the French Open in the last 3 years and no other slam?

Let me repeat this again. Don't bring any rigged-draw talk to this thread.

Nope. I don't know how many ways I can say this. What you're actually doing is accusing the ITF, WTA, ATP and other governing bodies of corruption without providing any proof. That is not allowed on Tennis Frontier.

I think this is one of the best womens draws in recent memory - great distribution of strength, good mix of top vets vs. top newcomers. Great matches from round 1 on. Really making me excited for sunday evening (well, Sunday evening here on the US East Coast).

Thanks Moose. I agree. While the top half seems a little heavy w/ some big hitters, there's a good grouping of mouth-watering 1st rounders. The fact that we have 2 former slam champs (Azarenka and DelPo) floating in the draw unseeded makes things very exciting on both the men and women's side.

I agree. There's a lot of interesting story lines and players peaking at a really good time. Obviously you have Serena in the twilight of her career still at number 1 and still an overwhelming contender.

You've got Petra who seemed to reassert herself last year at her favorite slam and then follow it up with some nice end of the year results and then starting the year with a title.

There's Caroline the former number 1 playing with her former consistency and a bit more added power.

Maria seems to be peaking at the right time as well having had very little issue in Brisbane.

Simona seemed to right her ship at the end of last year after a great start and rocky patch after Wimbledon. She's coming into AO having easily won one of the first titles of the year.

Ana's great comeback year to the top 10 began at the AO last year when she beat Serena and she started off the year with a bang at the finals in Brisbane.

That is a pretty packed list and leaves out former champions and young upstarts. Theres a lot of great story lines from week 1. All I'm hoping for is consistency at the top. I really love seeing players live up to their seeding.
