Isabelle, any reason given? My French is limited to Mac Poulet :)

Dear mac Poulet....the reason is shoulder injury but what did Cilic do in ITPL if he needs some rest ??
He wants more dollars than he already has ? And now he'll miss the beginning of the season...totally stupid IMO. Happy X mas

I love Kokkinakis. He has a very calm and reserved demeanour, and doesn't seem too interested in winning over the crowd, being too spontaneous on court or chasing fame. I have a good feeling about him.

While I have not seen him play yet, I have heard that he has better all around game than
Nick Kyrgios.

As much as I like Kyrgios, he might be 2 inches too tall to be a great player, historically speaking. Once you are at the 6.4, 6.5 mark, your movement gets exposed, you are more injury prone...I hope he becomes an exception.

I can't sit here and make any assessment about Kyrgios with any certainty (I find the hype somewhat curious considering I'd be shocked if anyone has seen him play a total of 10 matches), but I do think he might be somewhat surface specific. As in, he might struggle on slower surfaces. I could be completely wrong as I have literally only seen him play Nadal, but if that match is any indication, that would be my assessment.

RE: General tennis news

I saw Kyrgios in Toronto and he did not impress me. He was netting most of his BH's, and those were not forced errors.
I am not sharing the enthusiasm I see on this forum.
He might be a good player in the future, because he is very young, but I think he has a long way to improve.
Plus he has had already quite a few injuries, which is not good. His lanky stature might be fragile IMO.

About the other teenage hopes, people are too quickly here hopping on a bandwagon.
After the Ryan Harrison fiasco, who was at 18 in the top 100, and now he is barely haning to the top 200, I will watch them calmly how they develop, or not.

I agree with you, he is too tall and too slim.

I saw his US Open match against Tommy Robredo. What I saw from his match is that he is a streaky player right now. If he is clicking on all cylinders, nobody can't stop him. That was basically the first set against Robredo. Unfortunately, once Robredo was able to slow the pace down, Kyrgios couldn't anything especially during the baseline rallies. I mean Robredo was beating him with just slice backhands. So yeah for right now, he is a player with big serve, big forehand, and big head. We will see if he can improve his other parts of his game.

I dunno if this popped up elsewhere but Cilic has withdrawn from Brisbane with his shoulder injury, so has to be a real doubt for Oz.

Oh, and Zlatin ibrahimovic has claimed that he - and not Bjorn Borg - is Sweden's greatest ever sportsman... :laydownlaughing :Lolz:

Australia's Marinko Matosevic moves into the main draw at Brisbane after Cilic's withdrawl

Please was Ibrahimovic on some type of medication when he claimed that he was Sweden's Greatest Ever Sportsman....

My Idol Borg the silver grey fox:) was and still is Sweden's Greatest Ever Sportsman...

^^ Exactly.

Zlatan somehow scammed his way to second, doubtless through some populist bs in the media. And Mats came in 26th! :laydownlaughing What a berserk poll... :cover

Zlatan* and while I think he's wrong, it is not really as ridiculous as it sounds. Ibrahimovic Sweden's finest ever Footballer and one of the greatest strikers of his generations who's won domestic titles pretty much everywhere.

I think he's wrong though but keep in mind, Zlatan's whole gimmick is being arrogant in a tongue-in-cheek way. He jokingly refers to himself as "god" and sometimes speaks in the third person. In fact, that's how Nike market him now. So I would need to listen to the quote to truly get his tone but I wouldn't be shocked one bit if he was slightly facetious, especially since what he said was that he should have been number 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. So I'm pretty sure he was joking.

Scammed his way? Buddy, you must be unfamiliar with him. This is not some populist BS. Ibrahimovic has won Serie A titles with Juventus, Inter and AC Milan (a total of 6), French Ligue 1 titles with PSG (a total of 2), a Liga title with Barcelona (1, in his only season with the club), and a the Dutch league with Ajax. In the past decade, he has only once failed to win the domestic league with his team (in 2012). He is Sweden's greatest ever goalscorer with the national team, he's scored goals that you just never see anywhere, ever (not even on the PlayStation), and is widely regarded as one of the best 3-5 strikers of his generation, who has pretty much been the third best player in the world for the past 4 years.

It's laughable to suggest his second place finish is laughable.

It's laughable that the bloke thinks he should be ahead of Bjorn - and that he is ahead of Mats. And Stefan. He's a great footballer, at times, but he ain't all who he thinks he is...
