Riot, let's think of your buddy Cam Newton. Taking people from this board as examples, who do you think he would be more scared of running to the sideline to after an INT, a Coach DarthFed or a Coach Moxie?

Something tells me it would be Coach DarthFed, since he would tell him to his face that he is a mental midget and a coward who can't handle pressure, whereas with Coach Moxie the best she might do is give Cam her best imitation of Nadal's "withering glare". But I don't think Cam would be too fearful of that after running away from Navarro Bowman and Patrick Willis on a blitz.

And, btw, I'm sure women would do very well as running backs in the NFL. After all, they are just as strong as men. In fact, maybe that is the secret calling of Susan and Condoleeza Rice. They can be the female version of Tiki and Rondae Barber, and the great thing about their new jobs as NFL running backs would be that they couldn't bungle U.S. foreign policy anymore!

Gender equality all the way! Let women play football and coach football! They'd be just as good at it.

I think there are sex differences cali, and you have made some good points and some silly ones in my opinion. You have an exhausting love for this kind of battle. There are certainly some physical sex differences that translate to athletics, but I think you, nehmeth, and kieran are jumping to conclusions. I also think saying mourismo isn't as scary as a player turned coach who was long considered super scary or even mean isn't saying it comes down to gender. Also, unless lendl used to beat murray, I don't think there is reason why a woman can't be a scary coach. I agree that I am more scared of physical confrontation with most men than most women, but outside of random people attacking me, I am not getting in fist fight with anybody, so unless andy gets his discipline from being beaten by his coach, it shouldn't matter. I also think Andy's a big boy, and probably doesn't have the type of coaching relationships where he get reprimanded.

So can I just get left out of the "sex" discussions?

- Amelie was only hired to coach for the grass court season. So she should be measured by her results within that frame. Well, Andy lost in the quarters and did not defend his title. Has nothing to do with her being a female. Just the results.

- It is my perspective that when my confidence is shaken and my resolve is gone - between seeing the lovely Mauresmo or the scowling Lendl - seeing Lendl would do more to get me to knuckle down to the task at hand.

Lendl is one scary looking person. If Amelie looked like him and Lendl looked like Feliciano, I would reverse my statement. :)

When you consider Lendl to be "stern, and fiercely competitive," and Mauresmo only gets credit for being "compassionate," you are still giving him the high hand in terms of the gender-card. You played that hand pretty well, but gave a "tell" at the end.

Where's the "gender card?"

Men can be "compassionate" and women can be "stern and fiercely competitive."

Men can be nourishing and nurturing - and women can be strict disciplinarians.

Where's the gender card in any of this?

Agreed about men and women. The "gender card" was saying that Lendl was "stern" and Amelie was "compassionate." I believe there's a basic assumption on "compassionate," (and by implication, 'less-than-stern,') based solely on that she's a woman. Maybe someone should ask the French Fed Cup team what kind of a coach she is before people just decide.

A basic assumption by who?
