For gods sake, has Mary Crazillo's voice gotten even deeper????

You say that like it's a bad thing. No fan of Lauren Bacall?

I've said it before and I'll say it again...I think Mary Carillo is funny and an actual journalist and writer, which you can't say of many (any?) ex-players. I don't get why people don't like her, or certainly like her so much less than many of the other options.

All I can say is well done Cilic. This guy was unstoppable in the second week - clutch on the big points, incredibly powerful and efficient serve, and devastatingly good groundstrokes, particularly on the forehand wing.

He was just on a HUGE roll and I doubt anyone could've stopped him.

Thoroughly deserved, for sure.

Funny? Don't think so. :s

She is pretty much universally disliked and that is why she was fired by ESPN. I know for a fact that even players despise her, and some refuse to do interviews with her.

Do you think it's a coincidence that CBS's ratings went down and down once she got hired?

Carillo's no Bea Arthur either! :nono :snigger  I always thought she might be exposing too much info from behind the scenes; players' conversations and other private business! I saw her like Tiki Barber; a blabber-mouth that made herself interesting by exposing other people's business!

That's just my opinion, and I never get a clear answer as to why she's so disliked.

There is probably no one answer.

She violates some basic rules,of sports broadcasting. She makes it about her....she is relentless in trying to show you how smart she is, and she tries so hard to be poignant. The stupid play on words. Either you are a Borscht Belt comedian or you are a broadcaster. Her delivery is insufferable on top of it all.

She is not the only perpetrator of the above, btw. But she is the worst offender.

In case you are thinking this is a gender thing, I happen to really like MJF and Tracy Austin. I even don't mind Pam Shriver on occasion. Martina is ok, but she seems a bit loopy at times. I like Chris too. A lot. Really laid back and thoughtful. I also really respect all their accomplishments and insights.

I for sure would not miss CBS doing Grand Slams. The number of times they botched
the telecast of important matches even including semifinals is atrocious. They would sign
up to televise and one semifinal and then allocate two hours for it. If the match does not
end within two hours, they would not permit other channels to carry it live either as they
have the rights. We poor tennis fans are left with no options than to watch the taped
reaminder of the match whenever the CBS executives are kind enough to show it to us.

These days it is not much of a problem as we can always find some live stream or
other, even if we cannot watch it on a big screen. But, before that the atrocity of CBS
was truly unbearable.

Bye Bye CBS. :wave

Well said. We have all suffered. But that is where tennis is in the pecking order in the States.

They would rather show you McSports filled with murderes, wife beaters, known drug users, and felons.

I guess that will have to remain a "matter of taste" thing, as I would rate all those women differently than you.

No problem with carillo. why does this feel the same as when tsonga won the rogers cup. cilic will have to back this up for me, even though he earned it.

Doesn't even feel like a changing of the guard. Feels like there is no guard.

Who said open era began in 1968, open era begins now.

It's about time; 4 different winners of the majors and not the 4 we normally get! I guess I can hold off calling the ATP gutless with an expansion of the elite! They need to stop referencing Murray in that group! He's fallen way back! Something's missing! He's had moments, but that's about it! :nono :puzzled

Back it up? Surely you jest. Stanimal ring a bell? While Cilic is no gaston Gaudio, he is not a legit top 5 player either.

I'm glad you're cool with Carillo, too. Cilic will have to back it up. Same as with Stan. We may have a period of one-slam-wonders mixed in with some old guard, until a new proper superstar or two arises. It's hard to picture either Stan or Marin as that.

Stan there was more of a build up two really tough matches against novak. At the USO semis, he was very close to beating Novak, plus at the Aussie he beat the 3 time defending champion in the quarters. Not a dig a cilic. I am saying how it feels, not a question of earning or deserved. You couldn't have paid me enough beforehand to saying cilic would have won. Just being honest.

I do think Monte Carlo was more backing it up than stan was accredited with...
