Roger looked solid and confident today. Novak, not so much. Who are you picking??

I realize why you made this poll an anonymous poll. You are voting for Master. :snigger

Oops. This is only my 2nd poll thread for this site, and I forgot to make it open. But yes, I did pick Fed in 2. Mostly trying to jinx him. :snigger

Too late. I picked Fed in 2. :cover

That COULD be arranged!

I have my ways, I'll get Moxie to change your vote! Or may be even Tented!!

See. I can even give you a choice!

OK, nehmeth: change your vote! What does it matter what you think? Vote for your guy! (Happy, Kiu?) And kidding you, nehmeth. I always vote for Rafa, because I think, why not? But Broken, for example, votes what he thinks will happen. I respect both choices.

In any case, I think this will go 3. Roger is in very good form, but that can all go out the window on a good day from Djokovic. However, Djokovic's confidence is not there. Roger's is. I'm going with Roger in 3.

Voting what you think will happen is the only way, otherwise it might as well be in the fantasy tennis section. I don't vote for Roger against Rafa in slams since 2008 'cos frankly it'd be downright ridiculous at this stage. Can't see why people just choose the player they support even if deep down they know they haven't a prayer. It's not a poll then, it's a comedy sketch.

Also, Novak v Roger is a much more even contest as Roger v Rafa is a one way contest at this stage so voting for Roger against Rafa is just plain dense. I mean would you bet 5k on Roger to win just 'cos he's your favourite player? I think not..and good luck with that if you do!

And that should be the governing thought process for polls. If you had to bet money, who do you REALLY think is going to win. Otherwise what's the point of the poll to begin with?

This one is interesting. Nole looks like he is lacking confidence. Can Roger exploit that by coming out of the gates on fire and put negative thoughts in Nole's head, ride it our from there? It seems unlikely to me. Roger has a lot of confidence and some of it comes from having beaten Nole in Dubai, coming back from a set down. So he is not giving up if he is down a set. The court is slower than Dubai though, so advantage Nole there.
I will say Roger in 3.

Our sampling is so small in polls, that it doesn't matter if you vote your head or your heart. Betting money is much different that voting in a small-sample poll. Who cares? I say: vote any way you want to. "Fantasy tennis," to me, is trying to argue what would have happened if a match had gone differently, and that I do object to. But if you want to vote for what you hope will happen, in a poll…what's the difference?

^Because what you hope will happen and what you THINK will happen are two very different things. And it's not a poll then if people vote for the former. It's just a kiddie's game of playing put on a happy face 'cos my player is going to win just 'cos I want them to.

Not to demean what we do here, but it IS a kiddie's game. Our polls have no bearing on any outcome, so why shouldn't people vote heart over head. There is no money on the line, only ego. If you're more willing to be wrong than vote against your favorite, then I say, "Go for it."

I think it's fine to stand behind the one that brought you to the dance. We can debate the merits of players' game, and the why's and wherefores when it's all done, but I don't see any reason not to stand by your favorite when it still exists in the theoretical.

Of course they have no bearing on the outcome but you should still vote logically or frankly there's no point having a poll imo. Next slam match Roger plays Rafa, I'll vote for Rafa. Simple as that. Sure I'd like Roger to win but despite form coming into that match, etc, I know he won't win. So voting for him would just be stupid and pointless and by voting for him I'd just be in denial and lying to myself.

You mentioned the word theoretical. That's my point, this is meant to surely be a genuine poll. If it's theoretical it doesn't belong in the non fantasy thread.

[I changed it so that you can undo your votes in polls. Also, I made this a public poll -- everyone should be able to see who voted, and for which option.]

That's your choice, and I respect it. I'm just saying that there's nothing wrong with people who refuse to vote against their favorites. That is always my choice. Call it superstition or stubbornness, but I'd rather pull for my guy and be wrong, than vote against him, and feel faithless when he wins. In final as tight as tomorrow's…I'd totally go with my guy.

There's nothing wrong and it's not a crime but it's just illogical is all :) Denial is what it is and here's me thinking that was in Egypt.

Is it denial, or hope and belief? Faith/belief is part of what has kept all of you lovely Fed fans game and posting on these boards the last year, which was a tough one for Roger. I say, sticking through a bit of thick and thin is not a bad thing. What's the worst than can happen? You're wrong? When the honorable thing could happen, i.e., you'd be faithful to your player.

I'd say this is the only honorable thing to do if you lie to yourself constantly :p

And I'd say this about loyalty:
