Serbian-Swiss tie #2 - Wawrinka vs. Lajovic full match
Not great quality I'm afraid...but we see everything

For the point where Stan hurts his right hand/wrist, go to 2:01:20: Wawrinka leading 2 sets to 1, serving and up a mini-break in the 4th set tiebreaker at 3-2.

Not sure what he did to it, or how bad it is, Stan didn't say much, and I've seen no details anywhere.

In Stan's English commentary, he said he didn't think he was the best man to play in the doubles, but that he would play if Seve (Captain Severin Luthi), told him to play.

Respectfully,

Front, you're a Mortal Kombat fan?

Yup. Sure am  Although I'm well out of the loop with new console and pc games these days but it's a cool logo and about time I had an avatar at this stage and thought this one would be good :)

MK is my favorite video gaming franchise of all time. Playing the first 3 games was how I spent 50% of my time in the 90's! I love the feel of Mortal Kombat, the mythos, the characters, the background stories, etc... Favorite character?

Germany defeated Spain in doubles too. They are now 3-0. Haas and Kohlschrbrier beat
Verdasco and Marrero in a very competitive 4-set affair.

This removes the last bottleneck for Switzerland.

I am now ready to give the DC cup to Switzerland.

Gasquet and Tsong did double(s) duty and finished the Aussies off (3-0).

France will meet Germany in QF.

The first round is not over yet. But, that does not prevent me from jumping the gun.

Here are the projected QF clashes.

Japan vs. Czech
Germany vs. France

-----------------------------

GB vs. Italy
Switzerland vs. Kazakhstan

Now we can add congratulations to the Swiss team. Their doubles team of Chiudinelli/Lammer "upset" the more experienced Serbians Zimonjic/Krajinovic, 7-6(3), 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-2 to seal the victory in the tie 3-0.

Congrats to the Swiss team, credit a tired Federer and a "mentally and physically exhausted" Wawrinka for making the long haul flight from Australia to play.

Condolences to the Serbian team that fought hard, but was left without a top player when Djokovic pulled out because he was "mentally and physically exhausted" *, and Tipsarevic who was injured, and Troicki who is banned for antidoping violation refusing to take the blood test.

Switzerland will move on to play Kazakhstan or Belgium with the former leading the tie 2-1.

*I personally think Djokovic may have still been ticked off at his treatment in last year's Davis Cup final where they had him contained in the anti-doping testing room for 5 hours during the doubles match and couldn't be there to support the team... but who knows?

Respectfully,

Seems like any top player and anyone playing for the USA play when they feel like it! I'm always astonished when someone declines to play for their country; we're talking about a sport, not hard labor drilling for coal! I didn't watch our DC, but was still shocked to hear we lost both ties! There's been a reason GB hasn't gone anywhere in decades; both men and ladies! Even using mercenaries they've lagged behind the rest of the world until now! To lose like we did is enough to wash my hands of them! What kind of "B" team is this; YOUNG? OMG, talk about a last resort! What happened to men's tennis in this country? Maybe we need more college dropouts like Connors and McEnroe! :nono The so called creme of the crop should have been plowed under and used for compost instead of embarrassing themselves on "home ice!" How long will Courier last is the next question? I think Agassi or Sampras dragged out of retirement would have done better! :nono Getting DC jitters can't be used as an excuse with the players and certainly not for the Captain of the team! I guess I could be missing something since I don't pay attention as much with today's game! :( :puzzled :nono

Factoid: This is the first time Switzerland has reached Quarterfinals in DC since 2004.

Roger played the 1st round in 2004. Then he never played in 1st round until 2012.
In 2012 they lost to USA in 1st round. Roger did not play in 2013 at all.

This country used to be able to get away with that sort of thing since we had a wealth of talent, but those days are long gone! We could send a "B" team and not worry about beating Chile or Belgium, now our best can't beat some kid I never heard of from GB! That is shocking in so many ways! :nono

Cool. Love it too. Absolutely great game but I stopped pc gaming years ago 'cos my desktop got outdated and these days use just a laptop, although I just bought a nice fast new I7 2.4Ghz with a nice Geforce card so I'd like to try and play some games here again. Back when I played MK it was on the trusty old SNES and Megadrive/Genesis. A long time ago  As for favourite character I haven't played any of the newer pc console ones of recent years so I'm unfortunately miles out of touch but I guess Shang Tsung was cool in the older ones 'cos choosing him meant you could morph into any of the other characters. Some of the fatalities in the latest one are hilariously OTT :D

Gotta start playing some old emulator games on my new laptop and start pc gaming again and get the latest MK actually! I was a huge Streetfighter 2 fan back in the day too and the King of Fighters franchise on the Neo Geo.

I suspect we'll be seeing a bit more of Federer in this Davis Cup campaign. It could be a real chance to add a Davis Cup title to the resume.

You bet. Both Roger and Stan will be playing in all the remaining ties this year.
They are the favorite against all the remaining teams out there. The DC trophy is
for Switzerland to lose this year.

He can add a new trophy to his case this year. Also, given that DC is spread over
a year, it will keep their spirits alive for the entire year.

The DC is spirit is certainly contagious. Look at Ward's win. Look at Swiss Doubles
win. Both the players are ranked outside 170 and yet they pulled off a win with
Fed and Stan cheering from the stands.

Japan - Canada 4-1.
This is how much Canada can do without Milos and Vasek.

I don't think Roger needs DC for his resume, but with a real team behind him and a solid chance, I think he'll put the effort into it. Switzerland could really do it this year. That would be a nice cap.

He may not need it, but it is nice to have it. This year the opportunity arrived to his door, he better take it. Although is not yet a walk through the park, but they have a good shot at it.
If I would be him, I would focus on it.

DC probably Fed's last great chance to win something big with a lot of support! Forget the Olympics or majors outside of Wimbledon! The field has just gotten a little too tough; I think! :nono

Italy beat Argentina. Sijsling up 2 sets to 0 on Rosol in the decider between Netherlands and Czech Rep. Murray took a tight first set from Querrey. Must win match for the US.
