So much for all those posters bitching about Stan and Mirka.

That has nothing to do with it. As professional tennis players, both Fed and Wawrinka are supposed to put this behind them and work together in order to win the Davis Cup (and of course, they did). They are not children.

Discussing last week's incident when it happened is irrelevant. Of course we were going to talk about it and we had every right to bitch, because if Mirka really heckled him, she was in the wrong, and Stan WAS a crybaby about it. I don't see how winning this match changes any of that.

Federer will play: there's no way he would allow the "asterisk" on his DC win to be that his only success was in a doubles match. :nono

If it happens to end that way, then so be it, but at least he will have tried to prevent it from ending with a loss to Monfils being the extent of his singles play.

No, Federer will play. I don't buy it either, saying it's down to a lack of practice. There's no way Federer is unfit to play on Sunday and suddenly his back is better. I think he's throwing a red herring into the mix...

I saw the match Friday. He looked totally off and stiff. His explanation makes sense, especially after seeing him play today.

Still, singles will be a different matter and I'm sure Tsonga will challenge him.

I did not buy his explanation yesterday. Today, I am willing to buy his yesterday's explanation.

Actually his explanation doesn't make a whole lot of sense. If he wasn't practicing, it's because his back was bothering him. So his back just magically healed on the day of the match?

You think he is lying?

What is your explanation for it then?

He had a spasm, decided to give it as much rest as possible, played Monfils, realized he was not adjusted to the circumstances and lost. He was aweful the first set, second and third were not great either but definitely better than the first.

I'm not saying his back is not bothering him, but I think the no practice explanation makes sense.

Is Simon on the team as an alternative, I would rather see him play Fed instead of JowillieTs

I think he's giving a red herring, so the French don't see him as a lame duck (a herring for a duck. I know :cover). I agree with Broken, if he didn't practice it's because his back was sore. I can't see that it's miraculously healed.

If it had, he'd do a lot better against Monfils, even playing blindfold, left-handed, and with no practice...

Right. Or maybe the doctor of the Mallorcan robocop flew in and gave him injections?

We will know more tomorrow. What is your agenda? Bad pressing federer?

Davis cup is not a professional event. It's a national team competition.

Edit: also, yeah they were both silly, it was more the 'federer and Stan are no friends' narrative that was stupid IMO. It just didn't make sense to me.

No! Where am I bad pressing him? The guy was so injured last week he skipped the second biggest final of his season - then Monfils thrashed him. I think he's still injured but doesn't want to say it because that would certainly give the French more hope. He's bluffing.

However, I do believe him when he says it's getting better. But I don't think the back is fully fit yet. We'll see how Tsonga handles him.

Not too sure what injections you're referring to, by the way. You trying to start a flame war?

France needs to do something! They went from favorite to looking awful today! :nono :dodgy:

Simon would make sense. He can make the points last longer, make it into a war of attrition which could be bad for the back. But he is a lesser player than Tsonga. Tough choice.

That could be the case maybe, let's see tomorrow.

If France wanted to use Simon, would they need to produce a doctor's note?

I would think so. Good point. Don't think they will want to try that, so it will be Jo willie for France.

It's just at this point in time, maybe France are calculating things in overdrive. Did they select the right players? The right surface? JW was complaining that fans weren't getting behind him - did they choose the right city?

I think they have two experienced players who they can rely on, as much as anybody they have. They're facing strong motivated opponents, lads with a much better pedigree than the French can offer...

Tsonga shed a tear when 27 000 were blasting La Marseillaise today, I think that is not really an issue. There are quite some Swiss there though.

Everything else I pretty much agree with.

I heard btw that it stinks inside the stadium, cause it's a football pitch they had just fertilized and then removed. Lol
