These matches are 3 out of 5 sets and Federer will have played quite a number of matches by the time DC final arrives, my only concern about him would be the physicality of it. Will he have enough if his first match goes the distance? If the final were to be played on any other surface than clay and best 2 out of 3 sets, then I would already pencil him in with 2 points. But in these circumstances, I really don't have any sense how it might go.

You are worrying about things that are not in your control. Just sit back and relax. Whoever plays well will win. :snigger

Darling, I am not worried at all (Nole doesn't play), I will kick back, relax and enjoy the battle. I just wanted to put some more doubt and worry onto you.;)

Apparently all the players selected for DC by France, live in Switzerland. :nono Which country do you think they will be rooting for? :laydownlaughing

^^^ Wow so French are having doubts now.:nono Sometimes it is just better to have 2 great players than 10 good ones. This looks like real tossup now. Looking forward to watching some of it.:)

It is not so much of a surprise. They already forewarned us that they may decide to
bring in Benneteau. They could not decide whom to kick out at that time. They must
have felt Simon is the best candidate to throw under the bus based on his clay pedigree
and perhaps due to how he performed in the boot camp.

Also, they waited to make sure that Benneteau won at least one match in WTF before
announcing it.

My guess is they will put Tsonga and Monfils for singles duty and Gasquet and Benneteau for doubles duty. Gasquet would be a big time marked loser in singles matches.

Benneteau will be asked to report for the boot camp as soon as his WTF is over.

I thought Tsonga usually played these doubles for the French team, but may be they put Gasquet with Benni as well, or they might opt for a singles match for Julien. We'll see soon enough. They can also change the players up to 1 hour prior to their matches, right?

In the semifinals, actually Gasquet played singles and won also.

But, I don't see Gasquet as a good choice for singles against the Swiss Team.

They are required to submit a team of four players 10 days before the tie. Today is that deadline as the DCF Starts on 21st November. They don't have to declare who will play singles and who will play doubles at this time. They are allowed to change a maximum of two of the players in the team until one hour before the draw. The draw happens the day before the start of the tie and at least 24 hours before the commencement of play. Even at this time, they are not required to say who will play singles and who will play doubles.

They can fool around among the four selected players in the team and decide as to which two are going to play Singles on the opening day until 1 hour before the first match. Similarly, they only need to declare the players for doubles and reverse singles only one hour before the start of play on 2nd day and on 3rd day. Finally, they can change the player involved in the last singles match by announcing it within 10 minutes after the end of 4th rubber.

Also, there are exceptions to these rules based on injuries that occurred to players after the
team is announced and disciplinary actions against players, that are not worth describing further.

I hope it's precautionary. Would be a rather dull DC final otherwise.

Did the Swiss just lose to the French in London? :s

Quite possibly :-/

I think so! I say it was ridiculous for Roger to go "all out" to win that match against Stan with all those match points! He worked for almost 3 hours and he's emotional crippled his team mate! Without a doubt, this was the stupidest thing Federer could have done; all about his ego and not wanting to succumb to Wawrinka! He's a fool that's had so much success, he figures he can still get away with acting this competitive! I mark this tourney as a time-lock that could change Federer's future; whether or not he wins anything of significants again and esp. DC next week! :nono :s :cover

I am sorry, but I simply can not understand it. He was not supposed to try his best in those MP's? Or he should have taken the foot off the gas earlier?

These guys jobs are quite simple on the face of it: try to win, deal with losses. Any other thing (and this would surely include tanking matches for strategical reasons) would fit better the description of someone driven by his ego.

Change his future? Other than maybe not winning DC it changes nothing. He'd have preferred the WTF title a million times over DC. He has 1.5 months to rest up now and even then there's always stem cell treatment!

Fine; but they're supposed to be friends! He has to know Stan's a mental midget who obviously has some trouble in tight matches! Fed took advantage of that, but he shouldn't be surprised if he loses 1 match and Stan collapses in both of his next week! I've seen this sort of thing happen before! A precedent was set ages ago! You can push yourself one day, but you and others pay for it the next! :nono:angel: :dodgy:

I'm speaking of a domino effect; esp. if Switzerland loses in a tight TIE next week! I'm not exaggerating the importance of this moment and others here are "poo-pooing" it! I said last night this was a mistake and Roger proved it by not even getting his old arse out there today to allow Nole his beat-down of THE GOAT!

Well he obviously didn't know how he'd feel till today. Pretty sure the hope was to be fine today to play Novak but as is often the case with injuries, you play through a bit of pain with adrenaline and feel much worse the next day. He wanted to play the final today so that's why he tried to win the semi final. Duh. :cover Not like he'd roll over for Stan and deny himself the shot at playing the final. Roger didn't take advantage of Stan being a mental midget, it was Stan's fault he played crap on 3 s&v attempts with match points. DC would be a nice runner up prize but Roger's main goal was to try and win the WTF obviously as that would've more than made up for his shortcomings in big finals this year. The DC final hasn't even begun yet anyway. Who knows how things will pan out. Sport is very unpredictable and I doubt many were expecting Murray to win just 1 game against Roger, for example.

Well it would've been a beat down if he couldn't play properly and the only thing Roger would've proven by playing injured would've been that he's a complete imbecile. Him not playing shows actually how well he's managed injuries in his career. He's only ever given one other walkover in his career (against Blake) because likewise he didn't want to aggravate things. You'd surely have thought he was more of an imbecile if he'd played, twisted his back even more and messed up his 2015.
