@Fiero: Speaking of being nauseated by someone, you didn't even read the post you were quoting. (Never met a nuance you didn't tread on, I guess.) And: are you really so vile that you drop straight into hilarity when you read that a player might have been injured?

Yes.

I wasn't morally scolding you, nor trying to shower Wawrinka with praise. I was trying to make the point that loss sometimes needs to be chalked up, and a bad day is a bad day. I'll leave the mopping up to you, then, when folks accuse Rafa fans of making excuses for loses due to injury. It was bad luck for Rafa that his back bothered him today. It was also bad luck for him that Stan played as well as he did. I'm not sure what else there is to say.

Again I wake up to Rafa losing a match "only due to injury;" or so people will say! No other top player nauseates me more for this very reason! No one can win unless Rafa isn't feeling well and at his best! Does his opponent get the same consideration? NO! Most would say, "you were going to lose anyway!" Sickening! Wawrinka was playing out of his mind "from the jump!" Why couldn't he have won anyway? "Bravo Stanley; you backed up that great win of Nole and took this title!" This should happen more often! :clap :clap :clap

Oh, good. Another Cali-type: didn't watch the match, but will tell us all what happened, and why.

Exactly...

You do know where all this condescension can go? :( :cry

It can go exactly where you watched the match! In your head.

You didn't see it and immediately come on insulting people. Watch a highlight reel at least, before posting...

Theoretically good advice, Kieran, but in this case it wouldn't change a thing.

No Asterisk Required

As folks frequently say, either u r fit enough to play or u don't play. Nadal got injured---perhaps during the match, perhaps before. Perhaps it was nerves that contributed to the injury. Whatever the case, Stan was the fitter, better player and deservedly won. Period.

@Broken: :( See what I was trying to avoid?

There you go assuming a lot! I just don't like it when the only thing we will hear now is Rafa only lost because he's injured! There's no jocularity involved, just satisfaction someone outside the top 4 won a major; PERIOD! Get over yourself; you and the rest of the Rafa sycophants!

I'm not assuming much that you aren't proving. I asked you to read the post you quoted. I have been arguing with Broken (both of us Rafa fans) about not making it about Rafa's injury. It was a bad day at the office for Rafa. Stan was the better man. You don't have to read before you gloat, but if you quote someone, you really should, especially if you're going to quote me, then accuse me of being a sycophant.

In my opinion, this is the best thing that has happened to tennis since Federer winning his first GS title. The Big Four dominance got boring, that's why I wasn't particularly excited about Murray's title in the 2012 USO, he was a new GS champ but had been winning Masters for years.

It was about a time to get a GS champ outside the Big Four, the last one was DelPo at the '09 USO. And it's great that the champ is an offensive player, and that he has the 1HBH that's getting rare.

You haven't watched the match, and now you're pre-judging the media. Great mind you have. Perhaps, just perhaps, you're wrong...

never understood how some people could actually hate a person they never met to the point of celebrating his losses more than his own fav players victories.

Rafa now has something new to pay attention to, it's bound to happen as he aged but how brutal when it happens in a Slam final where you are going for history.

I never felt comfortable with the predictions of Rafa getting #18, more than likely he will be competitive for the next 9 Slams and have a chance to grab three.........it's safe to say the AO might be out of the picture given the history there.

Good to see Stan the Man stepping up.........late 20s seems to be a great age to reach potential now days so a guy like Grigor has plenty of time.

This isn't the way it's being talked about NOW, nevertheless the rest of the year. Seriously, Fiero:

1) Watch the match. The whole match. Not just clips.

2) Read through the entire thread before responding.

3) Don't drop in, after having woken up, seen only the score, and start this I'm-just-telling-it-like-it-is nonsense.

Me neither. Not to mention those who are happy when certain people get injured.

You should see this thread, in which I mentioned Grigor in a similar vein:

A Fedfan checking in to say that I am genuinely happy for Stan, Not happy JUST cause Nadal lost.

However - the whole time I was watching the award ceremony and listening to the comms later, I could not help but wonder how fiercely they would have been raking Roger over the coals had it been an all-Swiss final and Roger's back trouble had resurfaced and caused him to play badly and lose, and he had had the nerve to mention it like he did after losing to Berdych that time and Jon Wertheim called him low rent. Why does Nadal get such a pass with the press? It irks me no end!

Doesn't turn me into a hater, but annoys me! Grrrrrr!

Off to eat some SWISS chocolate!!

Fiero, I think you're here today to just take a p1$$, are you? I get it, you hate Rafa, you love Roger. You're celebrating this injury by telling everybody to ignore it.

You hate that Roger benefits so much from Rafa's injuries. I understand. But why don't you snap out of it an pay attention here? Rafa couldn't move after the 2nd game of the 2nd set.

You think that might have affected his chances for good - or ill?

Regarding he injury, it's silly to think Rafa being tight and nervous (which he was in the first set) had anything to do with this injury. He felt it first during warm up and that's how back problems creep up on you........sometimes just watching TV and turning to your side to grab those doritos.
