Congrats to Novak! :clap

Just three more matches, and the race for year-end No. 1 is done and dusted.

Apparently you didn't watch the Shanghai trophy ceremony, because that's precisely what Roger did.

Slow hardcourt might be just the thing for Raonic. It'll be interesting to see how far he goes at the AO

Congratulations to Nole. That was a nicely played final. We want more of those, please.;)

Great week for Milos as well, made it to the WTF for the first time, congratulations.

It was a lovely ceremony, kudos to both Milos and Novak for attempting to speak French, the crowd appreciated it.

600 match wins, 20 Masters 1000 titles, well done Nole.:clap:heart:

Routine win for Djoker, Raonic exposed at the very highest level, which will be his career, unfortunately for him. He does very well with what he's got though...

To be fair, there are other top guys that Raonic matches up better against. Unless he has a perfect day serving, novak is a nightmare for him.

I think if he faced Roger in the final instead of the QF, the result would be straight sets for Roger. There's some blokes who just don't translate their game well for big finals. No shame in that for him, as I say - he's doing well with what he's got, and he's trying to improve all areas of his game...

That's the impression I get too that if he faces anyone good in a final his game goes to crap due to nerves causing poor execution, etc. Glad I made the choice to go to the gym instead of staying home to watch a totally one sided routine match.

Maybe, perhaps, Rafa out-does him in Spanish, but who knows, it is the maestro after all.;)

Very funny Billie :) For the record I'm not approving about all the smarminess from Roger either. I find the whole thing tiresome. Just my view of course. I hanker to the old days where my boy Stefan won and there wasn't this attempt to be everything to everyone. Just my opinion of course ;)

I think that it is admirable for anybody who visits a foreign country and tries to learn a few phrases, I always do that. For tennis players it makes even more sense to try at least to say something in a language where the majority of the crowd speaks that language. You can call it any way you want, I find it endearing.:D

Very nice try by both to speak "en francais" but both could use some more "pratiquer"
;)

feels very contrived to me. Federer does it naturally, these other guys feel obliged to try. Cringeworthy.. The day I hear Roger try to speak Mandarin, I'll switch the tv off

Roger grew up in a country where most of people will learn French from childhood. So it is not a fair comparison to begin with.

Also, Federers mother is French.

I realise that. I just can't help but feel this effort to try to speak every language is because other players are trying to match his brand.. which is a natural thing. You don't see him trying to speak Chinese..

It IS forced and cringe-worthy because it's so awkward, but it has zero to do with players trying to be like Federer.

Depends on the match-up. To be honest, it's tough for me to pin-point what surface suits Raonic best. I would think slow hard courts would be awful for him against guys like Djokovic, Nadal or Federer. Not enough cheap points on serve, and it would be quite difficult for him not to get outmaneuvered. Conversely, he would find more time to get big cuts at the ball (which has been a problem for him when facing these guys on faster courts, actually). So it's kind there are pros and cons. I still think he matches up poorly with these 3, and in theory, Murray too, though he's beaten Andy four times so he must be doing something right.

Actually, she's from South Africa. Quite a way away, that.

Yes she is from South Africa but Linette (born Durand) is French.
