Well done to Andy.

It was an absolute joke to close that roof. Time and again we are told this is an outdoor summer event. If that decision had screwed Andy then Wimbledon would have deserved the opprobrium of the nation. To close it was just typically blooming British.

The alternative was to possibly close it late in the 4th set, possibly during a game because it would have been too dark to play. Closing the roof at the end of the 3rd was the sensible decision and Wimbledon is smart not to make a dumb decision just for the sake of favoring the hometown player.

Agreed 100% Imagine if they closed at 5-5 or something like that if it reached that point. Would've been ridiculous.

I absolutely agree that it was before-time to close the roof, and never mind that JJ had been salivating for it. They had 45 mins-1 hour of daylight left, on a sunny day, and no set had gone longer than 50 minutes, and the last one was done in 35. Why destroy a player's momentum, prophylactically? If Andy takes his momentum and wins the 4th quickly, you're done. If the set grows long and they're on serve, or trading breaks, you find the right moment to stop...something like 3-3. That seems more fair to me.

That is a stretch to estimate how much daylight was left and compare it to how long the previous sets were. It could have been deemed unplayable before there was no light left. You have to plan around worst case scenarios and the worst case scenario is a 30 minute break at 4-4 or 5-5 in the 4th.

Also bear in mind that while it may look bright enough on tv the reality is that's not the case when you're actually playing. The world and his wife can recall how we all thought it looked playable in Wimbledon '08 but they had trouble seeing the ball at the end of the match.

Yes, but it was 8:30pm in England when they shut the roof, which is long before twilight. I don't see why the end of a set, with all the momentum in one player's favor is a better time than at 3-3 or 4-4 in the middle of a set. I guess you might say it would have been momentum killing to JJ, had he gone up a set and a break or 2 in the 4th, and had to stop at 5-2, in his favor, let's say. But why is that more fair than stopping Murray when he's striding, and you might have had time to finish another set? If there were only 15-25 mins. of daylight left, I see doing it at the end of a set. When there is arguably enough time to finish a set, and a player has momentum, I think that's unfair.

There was no reason to close that roof. The light was perfectly fine and the roof was intended to allow play when there is rain. It wasn't designed to interrupt the natural flow of a match. It is an outdoor tournament and you play until the light fades. It they had continued play then it could have been concluded before they would have had to stop play for bad light. Janowicz had been complaining for about 45-50 mins before they even stopped play. I can assure you that Wimbledon is dumb enough to ensure that they hinder a British player just so it doesn't appear that they're showing favouritism. It's a British thing.

I didn't quite understand what precipitated the need to close the roof either. Janowicz was whining about it for a while, but why that should sway them to alter any normal format is befuddling.

Yeah. I seem to recall Nadal playing a number of grueling semis en route to the finals and still having enough gas in the tank

To me, this finals match up will be about two major things: Serving and Staying Aggresive.

Both players have a tendency to rely on their defensive skills to outlast opponents. On grass, thats not such a good idea.

The bolder player will make more headway. I was happy with Noles desire to come to net against Delpo. That was a major key
