There is no question Serena will win. The more approprate one is how many games can Vika win. I say five games. A pity she is so off her game. I was hoping for an exciting final. Instead, we will probably get a Pova-esque beatdown. Why can't Vika improve her serve?

It isn't that easy to do as Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic can attest to with their share of tennis problems that they have had with the serve. The serve is a challenging one that Vika at the moment seems can get away with until the other ladies step it up and start taking her out more consistently because of it. I know one thing Serena better send a message early to Vika and attack the tar out of her first and second serves and none of this just getting it back crap.

Vika is struggling on serve and that puffy serve will not cut it in the final...
Serena s serve is more solid and she is the best revenge player I know...
Serena will win and thats a prediction I am confident of...

That's an oxymoron how can you be confident about a prediction?

Like this: I'm confident in my prediction that Serena will beat Sharapova.

I would confidently predict that before every one of their matches.

its just a game ish:laydownlaughing:snigger...

I don't get it?

Do you mean it's a game to say that about Sharapova and Serena?

Well, I think a "confident prediction" is possible, and I was trying to support your claim that it is, too.

At last year's final, Vika was came in playing much better than how she is playing this year. While she is gutting out matches, she is the one placing herself in precarious positions. Her serving has been dreadful, the # of double faults epic and the drop shots sometimes awful. She cannot play like this against Serena and expect to win. Serena's return game will place Vika's serve in trouble.

You're completely right. Vika's play has been off in this tourney. And although she has been able to grab wins, she has never beaten Serena will out playing at her very very best. Even in Cincy with her abdominal strain Serena had the match on her racquet.

I hope Serena plays great first strike tennis. I hope she keeps the points as short as possible as to not allow Vika to get any rhythm on her ground game. I think that is where Serena has gone wrong this year with Vika is making it a ground game war which Vika likes.

Her form all year has been dodgy. If you go back to her AO run she struggled mightily. Hampton almost took her out, she got tight against Sloane in SF w/ the MTO's and Li came out of the locker room blasting. If Li hadn't got injured, I really think she would have won that match. Vika didn't really play well in the final. She was steadier and ultimately that's how she won it.

I think she believes that she doesn't have to play her best and she can still win because she's had marginal success this year doing just that.

Serena in straights. While I expect Vika to lift her game (she always does when she plays Serena) it won't be enough today. Her play this fortnight is a risky way to go about business (waiting until the final to bring your best tennis), and it will catch up to her today.

A no brainer, Sherona? I guess it would depend on whose brain you use. Since both wins for Vika came in 3 sets, how can your logic today suggest it would be in straights? :dodgy:

Owning would be like 6-1, 6-2. Nobody has owned Serena this year. I hardly call 7-6 in the third owning Serena with Vika taking that breaker 8-6.

On another note, I noticed in the second set versus Li, Serena was well behind the baseline a lot of times allowing Li a chance to hit volleys and come to net hence the closer second set. She has to remain close to that baseline to not allow Vika a chance to come to net or dictate play period. Stay out of clay mode Serena and hug that baseline or stay close to it.

Sunday,
Why are you tense about something you can't control? :)
