Yes Mashafan she fought well this time. She should be proud of that effort and maybe she will benefit from keeping it close in future matches

The good thing (for a Masha fan) is that Masha wasn't blown of court - Masha went down fighting until the bitter end and lost 46, 46 and she's getting closer to defeat Serena this or next year - Well done Masha!!! - Another great gutsy performance even if it wasn't a win this time :clap - You keep on going Masha!! - Good luck @ Wimbledon!!
:laydownlaughing 14-2..

Serena was just nervous of that obnoxious crowd but aquited hrself well...

The scoreline doesn't necessarily show how competitive this was. It was a great match.

Actually, the crowd behaved rather well Tossip

Well it is obvious that it hurt Tossip, but Maria slowly is putting it together against Serena today was a much better effort than the Madrid showing, and I would even say the Miami showing to an extent.

Serena was playing below par, shewas missing a lot and making lots of errors.Sharapova was playing her best but it was not enough to beat Serena...this was pova s best chance because she has time to set up but it all goes to say that tennis is a mental game..pova didnt believe she could win especially after 10yrs.

Well, it is only a matter of time before Maria does get a win over Serena because like I said despite the hiccup in Madrid Maria is starting to put it together. I am prepared for a tough match this year at some point. I don't even think Serena was playing below par, she played well not at her very best, but still played well enough to get it done. I didn't expect Errani style match up as Maria is too good off the return and on her groundies to not make a match of this.

It only get harder for the other players as Serena moves on to her best surfaces. Keep it strong and focused Serena. 6 titles already this year.

I'm sorry, one player was playing at about 80% and the other was playing her heart out and still lost in straight sets. Don't see a loss to Maria anytime soon.

Ace to end it. How fitting. Well done to Serena on her 16th GS 6-4 6-4. Maria played well, but Serena really cleaned up her game in the 2nd set.

I agree, this was not a great match performance wise, but it did the trick. She was making quite a bit of errors in the first set, and not moving her feet and swinging freely. You could see there was a lot of tension on both sides.

I said Maria is starting to put it all together. I said a tough match this year not a loss. I said a matter of time whether it does happen this year or next or two years from now it happens and wouldn't be shocking to me if Maria pulled a match together out of her hat. I don't think it will happen on the big stage ever again, but a smaller tournament like Azarenka managed this year. Maria hung tough which is far more than people were expecting her to do against Serena.

pova is trying hard to beat Serena, this year alone she has lost 4 times in straights except for Miami...her best chance is indoors hardcourt like Instabul...

Well, you forgetting that with this loss, the psychological aspect in losing again is taking an even addition toll on Maria's ego. She'll fight, but, that little bit of doubt may possibly decide the outcome in any match they have.

And, again, I don't think Serena played that great today. I think she played better in Madrid and Rome finals.

during the speeches at the podium Serena seemed like she didnt want to speak into the mic that pova used...she hesitated for a few moments lol I think she is a germaphobe..she never gives her towels to the ball kids and never uses a towel when playing..and sits on towels..lol

Well, I don't think Maria played to her best abilities either especially when it came to landing first serves. Maria kept it close with a much lower 1st serve percentage than Serena. I didn't think Maria was going to win today, but a close match with Serena having a lower 1st serve percentage than her is admirable.

At this point, I doubt there's any additional toll on Maria's ego. Given that she hasn't won in nearly a decade, the damage was done ages ago. It's not like this was the second or third time, after a run of wins. If that were the case, then an argument for damage could be made.

At this point, though, it's about as exciting as watching Federer playing Wawrinka, or Nadal playing Almagro. Everyone knows the outcome. It's simply a matter of going through the motions, with everyone playing their part on court, including the inevitable loser acting disappointed and frustrated.

For sure. But Sveta is a headcase at times. That's why Maria has more titles.
