So we had a Fedal resurgence in 2017 and the first half of 2018, now maybe we've entered a Nadalkovic era. I could see the next three Slams being a dog-fight between the two, with one (probably Novak) taking two, and the other taking one. My secret hope is that Roger has one more surge in him to win Wimbledon next year, but it seems less and less likely. But if he does win Wimbledon next year I wouldn't be surprised if he retires after Basel.

But yeah, I'm getting ahead of myself.

I always feel bad for David Goffin type players. I see a somewhat similar quality in Nishikori and Ferrer: consistently very good players who just max out below the level of the elites and semi-elites like Cilic.

As I've mentioned before, Nishikori is arguably the best player in Open Era history not to win a big title. I hope he snags a Masters before he's through, but it doesn't seem likely.

Agreed. The first thing your body does when it's hungry and you're not consuming enough calories is eat into your muscle, which is a problem if you don't actually have much...
He needs to put on, not just muscle, but a bit of fat as well.

He's looking pretty tone again though, at least much more so than the last year and a half. Anyways he seems pretty fit again and his game is back. It's going to take a lot for someone to knock him off here.

I don't disagree with that. He looked a bit lethargic early on. We know the heat bothers him. But it was Sousa, after all. Not exactly huge competition.

Realistically, does anyone think that Millman is anything other than canon fodder? Even despite Federer's burgundy pajamas?

Rare to see Roger slip like that. It's a sign of the times.

The Millman puts a lot of effort. He will be sweating bullets soon.

Another granpa's special match with another imploded Australian. Even aids plagued Bill came to watch it.

Federer's serve has been awful so far, but he's hitting decent.

Roger seems to want to blow through this match as quickly as possible. I'm loving the "full arsenal" we're seeing, as the commentators mention, but that first serve needs to be more consistent.

Yeah I'm sure Roger would've struggled vs Gasquet and Sousa.

It's felt like his serve has been poor for much of the year as far as low 1st serve %. He got broken a ton at Halle and by KA at Wimbledon.

Still not terribly impressed by his ROS but at least it isn't Cincy level.

He's lost 14 in majors after winning the first set, I didn't realize it's gotten that bad. That is barely above 95%

Some crappy volleys, but he'll pull the set out.

Nope. I think the fact Federer couldn't be bothered getting out of his pyjamas emphasizes the point.
