Love seeing Goffin doing well here against Cilic, and in the tournament in general after that scary eye injury earlier this year that really worried him and effected (affected?) his play for longer than expected. He hasn't been terrible. I mean, clearly. He's still 10 in the world. But it wasn't until the semi at Cincy that I really felt like he was good to go again.

Would love to see him win this match. Even if I do wanna see a Cilic/Nishikori US Open rematch.
Cilic doing well to get the break back though. Goffin will serve to stay in the set here shortly.

But Cilic eeks out a second straight break. Rough first 3 games to start this second set. From both men. Not their best work.

Lendl was the same kind of player; took nutrition a fitness to the extreme that made him look emaciated, but that's how they do it; being extra light and flexible giving them more confidence! Sports is all about confidence in performing in the crunch! All these players are GOOD, but the elite are a different breed! Their success belies any of our notions about what they "should have done!" Lendl and Djokovic are the poster children for their era of play and what they did to shape it when at the top! :yesyes:  :ptennis:
I don't know man. Have you seen, Jordan, Lebron, Sampras, Edberg, Becker etc? All elite athletes, top of the world competitors. None looks like Nole. I know, to each its own but to me, Nole looks like he has nowhere to go, as far as reserves are concerned. I believe he needs to add a bit more muscle to the frame for longevity.

Agreed. The first thing your body does when it's hungry and you're not consuming enough calories is eat into your muscle, which is a problem if you don't actually have much...

He's looking a lot more fit than earlier this year and last year. Apparently he was only eating a vegetarian diet and has recently added back fish.

Actually, Nole had an interview with a Serbian journalist couple of days ago, in which he explained that many things they claimed Vajda said recently in Slovak media were incorrect. Among other things, Nole clarified that his diet didn't change at all since 2015, therefore since he won 4 in a row, so you'd think it worked for him then. It is largely vegetarian, but he also eats fish and eggs for proteins.

Umm, yeah I'd say that again. Fed-Kyrgios is 5 times more marquee than Djokovic-Gasquet.

Djokovic and Gasquet was a match between two shot-makers, while Federer vs Kyrgios was one sided match in which one player imploded, so how such crap can be a marquee match.

I thought I'd read that Vajda and the team told him to put on some weight and eat more protein when they came back on. Is this not true?

That is what they earlier said Vajda said in an interview for Slovak media and then it was repeated around the world. However, couple of days ago, Nole was briefly interviewed by a Serbian journalist Ozmo who asked him about it. Nole said that there were many things in that Slovak interview in which they quoted Vajda wrongly and Vajda couldn't explain why. One of the things is about diet which Nole has never changed since 2015.

Great play from Cilic today. Serve was phenomenal. Goffin barely won a point when the first serve went in. Goffin definitely didn't have his best today. But Cilic had quite a bit to do with that. Goffin defending his 4th round showing from last year though. So his ranking shouldn't go anywhere. Or at least not too far in either direction.

Very impressed with Cilic's play today though. Gonna be a really tough match for Nishikori. One I think he'll relish though. Hopefully he gives Cilic one heck of fight at least. But here's to Nishikori getting his revenge for 2014!

He was skinny all his life. When he was a little, his first coach Jelena Gencic persuaded Nole's mum to mix meat, liver and fruits and vegetables in a blender to make a juice/shake. There was no other way he'd eat meat.

Do you know that neither Federer ate meat until he was told he should start eating it if he wanted to improve his tennis when teenager?

Kyrgios is much more talented than Gasquet. I wouldn't consider Gasquet much of a shotmaker, he has a nice looking backhand and is harmless outside of that.

Look, I'm not making it up. The commies have been saying for the last 2 years that Djokovic looks too thin. Whatever, I don't care. If it works for him.

He's looking pretty tone again though, at least much more so than the last year and a half. Anyways he seems pretty fit again and his game is back. It's going to take a lot for someone to knock him off here.
