I remember Shoelace mocking the suggestion last year that these directors may mess with the surface and/or weight of the balls/ depending on who their favorite player is. But I think it's a realistic possibility. It's not like these directors aren't tennis fans and therefore it's highly unlikely they don't have a favorite player...
Very possible but more a case of style of play I guess than outright favoring one particular player. The bottom line is all these scumbags care more about money than the actual tennis which is so sad. Wimbledon and now the US Open using so much heavier balls just for the sake of giving spectators longer rallies have absolutely killed the game to the extent that grinding wins matches more than shot making. Kevin Anderson with his big serve should never lose to a frankly 1 dimensional clay courter like Thiem. The fact that he has so much time to line up his shots here is the only reason Thiem won and it's just not fair on Anderson. Use proper balls and Thiem hasn't a hope in hell.
