So is the fact that Thiem has three (!) clay wins over Nadal, including a straight set victory in Rome count for anything here?

It probably counts for 1 set...but I'm taking Thiem anyway. In the Slam prediction poll at the beginning of the year I took Thiem for the FO so I'll stick with that now that he's actually made the final. I just think that Nadal is going to lose an FO final eventually - so why not this one? The question of course is if Thiem has the lead - can he close it out or will he choke?

I'm praying for an upset! Funny, even if Dom wins, his ranking remains at #7 the last time I looked! Not sure I can remember someone outside the top 3 winning a major, but the ranking staying static; at #7 of all things!   :ptennis:

Thanks Moxie and AP for your good wishes. Today is a great day, the incredible #11 and #17 which Federer’s fans are so concerned :lol3:
The other day in the airplane I was watching the movie Borg/McEnroe and I never thought that Borg had so bad character when he was very young but his coach helped to have more control but later he looked very depressed too and meanwhile McEnroe was wild, party, party, party and trying anything. I didn’t like too much what the movie shows about both players

Latest Sportsbet wager:
Rafael Nadal 1.21
Dominic Thiem 4.50
Gambling experts picking the obvious but by surprisingly large margin. Larger than the H2H. And Domi's recent win doe not seem to count here. So, maybe it's worth putting some money on Domi, until the large margin lasts?

That's exactly why oddsmakers do what they do. The large margin in this case is exactly to entice people to place money on the underdog, because usually such odds are eye-catching. They have it down to a science. Odds are not meant to accurately reflect each player's chances, but entice betting in a smart way. Yeah, it's a risk, if a lot of people place money on Thiem and he wins, but on the long run, bookies will never lose money.

The bookies goal is to have equal amount of money on both players/teams so that they make money with either result. And that's why the line often gets adjusted, it means a lot of money came in for one player so now they need to make it more enticing for people to bet on the other player.

My rule with sports betting is that if I can guess what the line will be before I see it that is 100% a game to avoid. The NFL lines are crazy tough to bet as I'm usually within a point or 1/2 a point.

For today I thought Nadal's odds would be closer to -900 for a 90% chance. This is Nadal at RG final so I see kind of easy money on Nadal today.

yw Miss Carol..i tried to watch that movie but the acting was atrocious..Borg was a fantastic player who unlike LeBron, Michael Jordan, Roger or Rafa didnt handle his world renowned fame easily. He was beloved and admired by all the other tennis pros and fans. McEnroe was the exact polar opposite of Bjorn but was really a more gifted tennis net player who was probably as cerebral as any tennis player in history. However, when Bjorn gave up , McEnroe was unable to fill that Borg..Imagine if you spent 2 years architecting a game to perfectly dethroned the current GOAT and now he has decided he didnt want to play anymore. John was a true antiHero that quickly became a rock star without a band..

Nice post Darth, I am curious do you actually lay money on Nadal and did you take the odds on Halep winning over Sloane.

My problem is the site I'm on, Bovada, has that garbage online blackjack that I usually lose all my money on. At least it's not technically my own money as I just get $10 bonuses here and there. The $10 I got in April was up to about $200 before I busted out on Blackjack :negative:

I'm looking forward to new websites with only sports betting now that it's been legalized. I did pretty well on the playoffs this year only parlays. Probably only hit 20% of those but that was enough to come out ahead. I'd definitely bet heavy on Nadal today, I wish Thiem had a 20% chance to win but that seems very high.

The way they show Borg in the movie was bad, a personality very introverted and MAC a crazy guy drinking, women and who knows what else

And now watching the match, Rafa is doing some silly mistakes but he is playing well, the first serve.....ugh. He needs to be a little more sharp to finish the match in three sets
