Sharapova: Felt pain in my left forearm at the start of the 2nd set. Singapore & Fed Cup are priorities. Didn’t make sense to take risk.

So it sounds that the retirement only is preventive - well let's hope so for her sake.

Bencic up to #12 and seeded #11; hope she doesn't overplay! The child looked exhausted in that Toray final vs Radwanska! Nothing on Martina Hingis?
