its not Serena s fault that these girls are more worried about getting endorsements instead of playing to win...after what Aga s coach said I dont blame Serena for getting all that money lying idle on tour.Serena so far has made $9mil on tour alone in 2015 and yet some of these girls who want to look like models cant break even..she has made $39mil on the WTA since she came back from the embolism break...she setting records and making big bucks in the process...thats very smart and might reach $80mil total earnings next year..
Serena is setting herself up for life after tennis...all these records she is setting will keep her earning money long after she is retired.Their compelling story will be talked about long after they have retired, its for the history books...she will be talked about as the most compelling talented confident player that ever lived. She can be a motivational speaker and earn a lot of money..the sky is the limit for Rena,
I dont want to see her coaching these spoilt brats or doing commentary work because she has to earn a living...

Whenever I talk tennis records, I NEVER invoke or muse about money since it's all relative! Back "in the day," the top 10 got to maybe $200,000 a season, the next 10 in the $100,000 mark, with a big drop off after that! You can make that in a month and not win anything these days! Nole's cleaning up now, but besides his winning, the amounts have almost doubled in the last several years! He will pass both Rafa and Roger even without as many major wins due to inflation! I had the same debate concerning Navratilova and her record amount of $20+ million, but Graf came along when prize money seriously jumped in the 90's! Now Serena's ruling it all and should hold onto records for years to come; except we all know players like Sharapova and Kornikova clean up OFF the court because of their physical beauty; something Serena won't ever have to worry about! :p :nono

Yeah I totally agree. Prize money is relative. Although I will admit I find it really very encouraging what the top 10 are making these days. It's nice to see tennis on par with top sports earnings.

The money's obscene if you ask me; in all sports! Baseball being the biggest joke when you see empty stands with backup utility players making millions! :cover :puzzled :nono  :dodgy:

I don't consider Maria in the same universe as Anna K. Anna is still a very beautiful goddess but Maria is just average, IMO.

I'm just referring to how they're perceived overall! When it comes to tennis, they are barely footnotes! Sharapova obviously did better on court winning majors and has a career GS, but it took a while; surviving injuries, off court ambitions, and a crawling press/social media! :p  :dodgy:

Too bad Anna couldn't keep her mouth shut when playing doubles with Hingis! She might have acquired more major titles! There's only room for one DIVA teaming up with that Swiss Miss! :p  :dodgy:

If Sharapova's career isn't enough to make her more than a footnote I wouldn't recommend a career in tennis to anyone.

Unfortunately that's how it is in women's tennis! Even though I preferred the women's game for years until recently, they haven't gotten much respect; by tourney's or the public overall! From my day, it was Martina and Chris all day long, then the addition of some glamour in Sabatini, the GS winning of Graf, and the career shortening of Seles from being stabbed! Along came a novelty in the Williams sisters, the chessboard genius of Hingis, and the all-court athleticism of Henin! It's been up for grabs ever since! When you start having #1's in there without even winning a major, how much can you take them seriously! If women were maxing out their abilities, players like Sharapova shouldn't have even come close to that honor; much less Safina and Woz.! Serena's representing now, but she woefully underachieved with outside interests, injury, and drama in her life! Those are things you never heard from past QUEENS of the game; ever! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

I agree that Anna K is a sizzler in comparison to Maria. But, what an unflattering photo of Maria that you choose to post side by side. For a while, I thought it was Anna's Mom next to her. ;)

Okay, you lost credibility with that rant. First, Sharapova's slam have come in two generations, one being in the generation of Henin, Davenport and the Williams. So, being a champion is more than about just pure talent, sometimes it pure heart, otherwise a player like Marcelo Rios would have many slams, which bring me to the second thing. The first player to EVER to be number one without winning a slam was actually on the mens tour, Marcelo Rios, yet there was no questioning the seriousness of the mens tour as you did with the women. It's kind of like the issue with grunting, complain about the women when the men are doing the exact same thing. Third, how does a player who has won 21 slams have "woefully underachieved?" Please explain that bit of ridiculousness.

I live to be provocative babe! :dodgy: - I think Lendl held the #1 ranking for a "minute" back in the early 80's with a lot of WCT wins and long before his '84 FO win! Sampras acquired the #1 ranking from Courier who was holding 2 majors in '93, but dropped to #3! Sampras hadn't won much since his USO in '90 and made the final, losing to Edberg 2 years later! It was a weird time; esp. when you think of players chastising Muster for becoming #1 winning all his matches on clay and avoiding HC's after his knee incident back in '89 @ Miami!

As for Serena, she has tons of accomplishments, tourneys, medals, bells, and whistles! I just never cared for her type of play, her intermittent absences to do "fashion, acting, and to knock about!" You have to realize, back in the day, "the QUEENs" of tennis didn't have much in the way of outside interests! Serena wasted a lot of opportunities; very well should have closer to 30 Majors if you look at it that way! Losing 3 major matches to Henin didn't help in 2007! And I'm not sure how anyone can forget her behavior at a couple USO's; actually being fined heavily and put on a severe penalty of a long probation due to threatening a lineswoman! Not sure even McEnroe went that far! Her so called class is highly over-rated and even with her winning, it's not very convincing; allowing everyone to "test" her before eventually coming through in the end! Azarenka needs to just retire after embarrassing losses to Williams holding multiple MP's! Sharapova is just as bad; unwatchable and definitely not worth listening to! Believe you me, all that grunting coming out of them should be silenced! I thought they were supposed to stop some of it in the 'Juniors,' but it's only gotten worse IMO! :cover :nono  :dodgy:

just saw Esther Lee with the Vika team....this is coming off as very creepy,so next she is going to recruit Patrick.
I guess desperate times ask for desperate measures...#pathetic
I am beginning to think Vika is obsessed with Serena..
I want Serena to increase her security detail...
Sascha is polarizing and loves media attention like the Kardashians...Serena made the mistake of giving him a taste of the good life.

I don't think it's that big a deal. Esther needs a job and who knows, maybe Sascha put in a good word for her w/ Vika. As evidenced by her recent success, Serena doesn't need any of those people on her team to win. And Patrick isn't going anywhere until Serena retires. Then he'll be the most sought out coach. He'll be able to name his price and terms for his next charge.

No way is that happening. He's currently associated with the most successful player on tour -- and arguably the greatest ever -- during a period in which she's having tremendous success. That's priceless in terms of his reputation as a coach, not to mention his tennis academy in Paris. The only way this partnership would end would be if Serena ends it.

EDIT: I see in the time it took me to post this, kskate2 wrote many of the same things.

it was alleged that Esther left because she was tired of travelling...now she wants to travel again.I dont understand why Vika has to recruit from Serena staff...who is next Mackie..@verycreepy..this comes off as disgruntled former employees .I dont think Esther would lack employment because she has experience...its that hitting partner who wants to drag Esther into his mess..:popcorn

just saw Esther Lee with the Vika team....this is coming off as very creepy,so next she is going to recruit Patrick.

I'm glad you said "currently" because I probably wouldn't put Serena in my TOP 5 overall! I put her there "begrudgingly" when pressed due to her numbers, but her level of pathetic competition bothers me; psychologically they're deficient and can't finish serving for it with multiple MP's! It's just too sad to even think about! :cover :nono

Look at it this way imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:cool:
