Serena will be back. Mark my words. She wants to play when she is completely healed and make a run at a slam. I do agree that when they finally do retire it will be done rather quietly so as not to make a big splash. I can see one or both of them playing their last tournament and then announcing after the fact that they are stepping away.
I can see Serena returning, but Venus, not so much. That's why the endorsement deal surprised me.

At present the finer details of Venus being the new Global Ambassador for Lacoste,eg,promoting all parts of Lacoste productions is not clear.Remember Venus also has her own tennis clothing company.,so wearing Lacoste on court,I imagine would have to be worked out, that would be a 'conflict of interest' I would imagine.
In regards to the rumors of the Williams sisters being retired? there has been no official word of retirement from either Serena or Venus.
The fact that she has her own line of clothing is what really surprised me. Will she wear her own line on court, then wear Lacoste off court? Should prove interesting as to how that plays out, it seems like a "conflict of interest to me" but I am sure it was discussed before she signed with Lacoste. Venus strikes me as a smart business woman so many this will work out nicely for her. I wish both the Williams sisters success, I will be sad to see them retire.

Kskate and posters,
If you are around Jon Wertheim replied to another poster on Twitter which he cleared up, today,it was on March 7th 2016 that Maria Sharapova made an annoucement to the press she admitted to taking Meldonium. So there will be no annoucement today 7th March 2022,from Maria Sharapova.

Phew we can now carry on as normal, disaster has been adverted :)

As if we didn't know this already, but it's nice to see she actually will admit to it. I thought she was a great champion, I never considered her a "cheater". I wonder how many people feel her admission will tarnish her results, her "legacy" so to speak.

Any athlete that has been banned for taking drugs,to enhance their performance etc, of course will tarnish their career and that includes Maria Sharapova.I am sorry I never thought she was a great champion,of course she was a cheater, she took that drug for a lot of years.I am glad she was caught out and finally admitted to it.I can tell you she made no friends while being on the tour, her father at times the way he carried on,was disgraceful.

Naomi Osaka on potentially playing mixed with Nick Kyrgios

"If he wants to attempt to carry us, I'll consider it".

Well, I have to tell you I lived in the Bradenton/Sarasota area for 14 years and Maria often trained or hit at the IMG academy, where I played. She wasn't exactly Miss Popularity there either, demanding on the support staff. I mean you literally drove by her one house going out to the Lido Beach area, she was known to be somewhat difficult in restaurants, wouldn't give kids autographs, stuff like that. That's not unusual, Monica Seles was known to behave the same way, before and even more so after her stabbing. When the Wiliams sisters first joined the tour Venus and Serena were both known to walk by players and not say hello or speak to them. I think those two mellowed with age, but they weren't cheaters and neither was Seles. You know Maria wasn't the first player caught using PEDs, but I doubt her endorsement companies will ask for their money back. I often thought she would never had made all that off court money had she not been attractive. I understand people now question her accomplishments and rightfully so.

Regardless of Maria not being the first person to take PEDs,that does not excuse what she did,she took those drugs for years and it will tarnish her career.Personally speaking I have no time for any athlete in any sport taking PEDS,that is just down right cheating.

@kskate2 .I was watching Serena commercial for migraines. I saw the her daughter in the video and I thought back to the presser Step had with his oldest daughter on his lap. Remember your comment at the time... jajajaja ... it was about the "hot comb press".. it was too hilarious.

This is not a April Fools Joke,

Ash Barty is retiring from tennis just announced on her social page....I am trying to find out more, she will apparently do a press conference with more details
Ash Barty did say it was a hard decision, but she is happy with her decision.
I guess Ash has done it on her terms, she has gone out a winner.I know she wants to start a family and get married.( maybe she is pregnant).
Nothing more to prove, her main goal has always been winning Wimbledon and also winning AO.Roland Garos was just a bonus along the way.Ash will do a press conference tommorrow.

I am just Stunned!!!!!!!!!!!!!! though I am happy with her decision.Thank you Ash you have been a great player and soo down to earth and respectful to everyone....I better stop cause I have tears.

By leaving the sport this early, she's almost guaranteed to come back after she pops out a kid or 2.

Honestly we have seen the last of Ash on a competitive court, she will probably do a lot with junior tennis players in Brisbane
Pat Rafter came on our sports radio and said he was not surprised,as he and Ash had a talk after the AO this year.Ash said she was spent and could not give anymore.
Ash has gone out on her own terms.I wish her all the luck and happiness in her retirement

My final comment regarding Ash Barty who had ' a complete game of tennis' and a great IQ for tennis. We have lost not just a great player but a really nice down to earth person. What you see on the court with Ash Barty is what you get off the court.
Nothing ever remains stat in our game of tennis.Ash Barty will always be remembered not just as a great player, but a great person to boot.
