If that's the case, she definitely picked the wrong genes to procreate with. At least Red Fool can pay child support
he comes from a lot of money and artistic genes.Imagine being a Berry Gordy grandchild..

Why did Vika and Red Foo break up? She would have been better off staying with him. She lost a few prime years because of that actor wannabe.

Given the age factor I would say Venus,Sveta has just returned to tennis after injury,Maria has had shoulder problems this year, hardly played, now has a forearm injury, knowing her I think she still wants to stay around.Serena given she can stay healthy wants to tie Court's singles record or beat it.

Do you think Venus will stick around in doubles and have a long career there, a la Martina?

I don't think so. When it's Venus' time she will ride quietly into that good night and start a family.
You're probably right. Esp. given health issues. I guess I was just hoping. Remember in the way-back machine when people wondered if the Williams sisters would stick it out in tennis, given their outside interests? TBH, I've been at a loss to understand how Venus keeps at it, as it is. But I'm glad she's still around, however much longer it lasts.

OK, as you say...all too much, too soon. Look at Osaka...she seemed so sturdy, and yet she looks shell-shocked at the moment. Someone made the point on TV yesterday that it has probably been a good thing for Barty that she's been in Europe all this time, and away from the frenzy in Oz over her success. (You tell me, but that's what they said.) I made the point on a recent ATP thread that some of the youngsters who had early signature wins over Top 3 guys have not fared so well, and I think the media glare doesn't help. The notion that you go from relative obscurity to the Second Coming is ridiculous and short-sighted. And creates a lot of pressure. The very most elite seem to flourish, even under the heat of scrutiny, but others do wilt.

I'm pretty sure that was Cahill who said that

Ash Barty to me has always been a level and down to earth person,I think she has a good team around her,you will notice in her press conferences or even being interviewed on court she always says 'we' referring to her team, without them she would have not had the success she has had, even though she has had all that talent.Credit to Ash,when she did take a break from the game, she knew the warning signs of burnt out and was not enjoying her tennis.Pressure does effect players in different ways,.some flourish orther's not.I feel the individual needs to find a balance of coping with pressure.
Osaka I feel didnt handle the expectations of her when she was No1 both on and off the court, yes it has affected her game, though I believe she will ride this out,she is too good of a player not to,she also said she needs to take the pressure of herself,at least she can see this in herself. The media has always been ready to crown a new player.Tennis is a very selfish profession, you are your own destiny in many ways, remember your the one on court who holds the key to winning or losing.(lets forget the insane rule of on court coaching,I think you get my drift.).

I think Perrotta is looking at Gauff from the perspective of hearing about her for years. This is a girl who was picked up by Fed's agent at 13. She seems incredibly poised on court and mostly off court too. That has probably been that way for at least a couple years. And her game is clearly fantastic. It's really really good and solid. Plenty of variety. I do agree with Moxie and you that it's a bit too much too soon. Probably a lot to much too soon. As I wrote at length yesterday, I struggle to see anyone being truly dominant on the tour over the next 10 years. I think a couple different women will have dominant runs. Maybe one or two dominate a particular slam for 2 to 4 years at a time. But getting another Steffi or Serena seems unlikely. (And of course Serena has always gone on dominant runs and then had injuries or times when she was beatable. And Graf .... I really don't want to take anything from her. But Seles getting stabbed changed Graf's career. Graf has less slams and a serious competitor if Seles never gets stabbed.) More of the like of Henin and Venus and Sharapova if you ask me. On the one hand, I can see someone like Osaka having a solid 10+ slams by the end of her career which could stretch another 15 years. And while she's currently struggling, I can't see her being eclipsed by a bunch of other players. But I think there are plenty of players that can be competitive with her for years to come. We don't yet know how good Gauff or Anisimova or Vondrousova or Kostyuk or Yastremska or any of these youngsters are gonna be.

But I also understand the media's desire to pump up new talents. And Gauff doing this well at a slam at 15 does say a lot. I mean. Yes. Venus is 39 and has had a terrible year. But it's still Venus at Wimbledon. She's the second most accomplished grass court player on the planet. And any time she steps on a grass court she's a formidable opponent for anyone. Much less a 15 year old, no matter how good they are. Then she backed it up. The fact that she backed it up at all says something. Rybarikova is not seeded and has not been much of a threat over her career. But she has had a run to the semi here just 2 years ago. Now she gets Hercog instead of Keys. Hercog dispatched Keys with ease which suggests she should be in good form and can beat Gauff. And she's still a long time pro who knows how to weather a WTA level match much better than Gauff. But, while I'm inclined to say Gauff should always be considered the underdog at 15, Hercog isn't exactly the favorite. She's only made the third round at Wimbledon once. 2 years ago. She's a clay courter mostly. She won Lugano this year. But that was her first title since 2012. So she's playing better than she has in years. But grass still not exactly her forte. BUT, as everyone and their mother has been saying, this is the slowest Wimbledon has been, possibly ever. Which may have helped Gauff beat Venus and is helping Sloane Stephens, according to Sloane, and may help Hercog. But if she can beat Hercog, and she totally can, she'll get a real test (not that Venus wasn't) from Halep or Vika.

But going back to Perotta and the media. I can just about guarantee you half the reason she's getting so much extra hype is because she's American. Therefore the American media that is always starving for content to bring in those ad dollars will latch on to any American story. I think they were ready to for Anisimova at the French if she had been able to handle Barty and make the final (which she then would have had a chance to win). But one, it's the French. American's care a lot less about the French Open than Wimbledon. Anisimova, while young at just 17, isn't playing Venus at Wimbledon in the first round and winning at 15. But also. It's TOTALLY a push from her agent, Godsick. If a 15 year old non American had beaten Venus at Wimbledon, the story would have been about Venus. How age is catching up to her. She's done. Or close to it. Yada yada yada. So while there is some unnecessary hyperbole going on about the young woman, it actually might be a positive thing that basically all of the story has been about her rather than about Venus' loss.

Remember when I brought up CiCi Bellis yesterday? Chris Clarey tweeted she plans to return to the tour.I will put the info in the WTA news.
She sees all the success these other teens are having and sees how wide open the tour is. She wants her piece of the action. It's the right move. I hope she does well when she comes back
