Meldopova gets WC in Stanford, Toronto and Cincy. So, she will be playing for three weeks in a row. She did not make it into MD of USO. If USO organizers don't give her WC, the she has to play qualifying and then USO, making it six weeks in a row.

However, USO is basically materialistic and commercial and so they are expected to giver her a WC.
And the U.S. Open committee has granted Sharapova a wildcard into the tourney. Is she healthy enough to play? She hasn't really played any HC matches and might show up to NY w/ no matches under her belt.

I wish all the tourneys make a similar gesture to Meldopova (instead of giving WC into MD).
Well DON'T compare her with Sharapova it's quite another story with Vera Zvonareva - IMHO.

NEW HAVEN, CT, USA - Two-time Grand Slam singles finalist and former World No.2 Vera Zvonareva will receive a wild card into the qualifying draw in her first WTA-level appearance since 2015. Talented Americans Kayla Day and Sofia Kenin also received wild cards with the final announcements coming on Thursday.

Zvonareva, who married and gave birth to her first child last summer, first appeared on entry lists at ITF Circuit tournaments as early as March of this year, but played her first tournament a month later, winning her first tournament of any kind since 2012 at Sharm El Sheikh in July.

Besides starting a family, the Russian pursued education, earning a third master's degree in Global Studies & Political Science through a previous agreement between Northeastern University and the Women’s Tennis Benefits Association.

2017: Comeback, ITF title
Zvonareva came back to tennis from a two years hiatus - her last match being the Katowice Open in April 2015 - and debuted in the $15,000 ITF tournament in Istanbul.[16] She lost in the main draw to British Katie Boulter after retiring in the second set. She then qualified for the $25,000 tournament in Fergana, Uzbekistan, having been alternate in the qualifying draw.

Zvonareva won her first ITF title in Sharm el Sheikh since 2002's Naples $50,000 tournament. She defeated Slovak Tereza Mihalikova in three sets. This became her overall third ITF title in her career.

From her win in Egypt

It makes me a little sad and irritated when I hear that Victoria Azarenka maybe can't play US Open - well here is what she has written:

Shortly after Wimbledon, Leo's father and I separated and as we work to resolve some of the legal processes, the way things stand now is that the only way I can play the US Open this year is if I leave Leo behind in California, which I am not willing to do."

The 28-year old concludes by writing:

"I am incredibly grateful for all of the support I have received from women and men around the world who recognise the importance of supporting working moms and our right to be with our children, I look forward to hopefully having positive developments soon so that this difficult situation can be resolves and I can get back to competing.

"No parent should have to decide between their child and their career."

To me it's a problem which can be solved if US Open management will

I don't think there is anything the U.S. Open committee can do. This is because a California judge is banning her from taking Leo out of the state of California until this custody battle is resolved.

The battle can last years. As a California resident, I know enough about child custody to doubt she can get passed this.

It's no surprise USO granted a WC to the cheater. I hope she flames out in round one.

No No, You mistook me. I am not comparing them. Their reasons for absence from the tour are very different and all of us know that.

VZ is getting WC into quals (as opposed to MD) despite her absence being for legitimate reasons.

On the other hand, Meldopova is getting WC into MDs of so many tourneys (although she keeps withdrawing from them one by one)
despite her absence being caused by suspension.

Finally, there is a pleasure in seeing Meldopova actually playing a qualifying tourney, she being such a Diva. But, it has not happened yet.

I have to agree that Sharapova should have been given WC to qualifying, AT BEST.

As to Azarenka, she is still trying to work things out with her ex-partner, last I heard, to be able to play at the USO.

Apparently she even offered to put him up in separate hotel room for two weeks in NY and pay all his expenses for those two weeks. But, he is not budging.

Who withdrew Isabelle?
Azarenka. It's not in the US press that I can find, but L'Equipe is reporting it. Due to custody issues with her baby's father.

this year is for anyone who can win all her matches..no favorite for sure.I think Garbage wants it so bad ..its clear that she is desperate for Madison Ave,..unfortunately thats an American enclave.Ana Ivanovic failed to crack into the avenue and she was very pretty and sexy and now miss flat screen with a mean mug face is hoping...she better go to Japan or China for endorsements.

I still haven't found any official confirmation that Vika has withdrawn. She has a few more days to settle things in court with her baby-daddy in order to bring her son to NY.

Melanie Oudin retired at the age of 25. I remember when the Announcers said she was the hope for American Women's tennis. I always thought she was overrated.
