Who was saying that the WTA finals were boring? They must be sleeping. Two incredible matches today. Semifinals finally set:

1. Karolina Pliskova vs Caroline Wozniacki
2. Caroline Garcia vs Venus Williams

What happened to Caroline? The only thing that I saw was once she started complaining to the umpire, she lost all focus. Her first serve seemed to disappear & she began hitting the way she used to: slow & short with no good angles. Of course, I did have to get up at 0100 my time to watch the match, and I got grouchier along with her. If she had won, would she have been in a better position in the finals or would it be the same?

Even with semifinals set, I still do not see a clear favorite. Each of 4 semifinalists can win the Finals.

Woz lost in a three set thriler so RED group will be settled in the last round robin singles match can it be better. Look above how the scenario.

It is funny that going in to the match Garcia can either win the group outright or not even qualify for the final; nothing in between.

Well that's what I like about these finals - nothing decided before the fat lady sings. If Caroline Wozniacki beats Pliskova tomorrow - Simona Halep will be #1 the rest of the year - nice ah? Pliskova has to win the tournament to become #1.

Doubles semifinals are settled:

Hingis / Chan vs Babos / Hlavackova

Makarova / Vesnina vs Larsson / Bertens

Since the beginning of the year, the player that becomes #1 during a tourney has already left home. So, I expect Halep to become YE #1.

What happened to Sania? Why she is not in the doubles? Did she not qualify? If so why? Is it because she sucked or is it because she played with multiple partners?

All set for a Caro/Vee final.

Caro has never beated Venus and trails 0-7 in the H2H, although it's over two years since they played last:

2015 Miami Masters R16 Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 7-6(1)
2015 Auckland F Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 2-6 6-3 6-3
2014 Dubai SF Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-2
2008 Miami Masters R16 Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-3
2007 Bangkok R32 Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-1
2007 Japan Open SF Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 7-5
2007 Memphis R16 Hard Venus Williams Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-4

After Caroline's dominant & decisive 1st round win, I wrote (here) she was going to take it all. I still am making that prediction; Caroline to win it all. Caroline is not the same player she was 2 years ago the last time she lost to Venus Williams.

Go Caroline

Oh, yeah, Go Dodgers, beat the Astros.

Correct but a lot has happened to Carolines gameplay as you have seen this week and you can see that their last two meetings - 2015 - was quite even. I give Caroline a good chance to win the title
