Stats are good if they represent a real situation. The question is what is real and what isnt. Its just a comfort zone :p
After each set, they show on tv stats and winners hitting areas... I try to ignore them and remember what I felt during the play.

I agree with fashionista. Stats always represent the real situation. They're numbers. They're black and white. They're not interpretive. Trying to ignore them and remembering how you felt doesn't make them less real, even though I enjoy a comfort zone as much as the next person. ;)

Now, a player's career will change. She will have good years and bad years. The differences between the early career, the middle career, and the late career can be significant. But all the stats are still real, and still relevant to some degree.

Thats why stats mean nothing. :D As you said, "the differences can be significant", so forming an opinion while basing it on stats from the past is wrong, Simona is a classic example of that.

We'll see, but I hope she does well.

Sharapova will struggle to make it out the first week, let alone go deeper than the quarters. Her game doesn't translate to grass well anymore. Her serve can be exposed. The second serve pops up, and she's not athletic enough to move side to side on grass and loses a lot of time.

Serena- ??? really. After FO, and looking like she didn't even care about losing. I'm starting to think that wall she hit is real. I still think she wins this though.

Helep- A big hitter on a good day can easily dispatch of her in the first week.

Sloane- No

Rest of the top 10- maybe petra... peak petra, but I think this wimbledon will see order restored in the WTA. Familiar faces will be in the second week and a familiar face will raise the trophy

I think Si Si Simona's point is that when a player has had a big turning point in their career within the last year it's hard to use stats from before that point. For instance would anyone say it is out of the realm of possibility for Li Na to be a contender at Roland Garros just because for 11 years she barely even qualified? Or say in 2012 when Vika had her real breakthrough would anyone say that she really didn't have a chance to be a finalist at the US Open because in her prior 6 attempts she had not even made a quarter final?

It's hard to judge a player's ability on a certain surface when they've had a real breakthrough in their career, raised their level of play, and held that level of play for decent amount of time.

Although largely I do agree with you on statistics. I just think a breakthrough year kind of throws previous statistics out of the window.

I don't think Aga is 100% either.

By this time tomorrow,we will have a draw to look at.

Which is she ever? Always has a ton of tapes all over her body. Like The Mummy!

I just read on TW.Com that Pete Bodo has also picked Sharapova to win? he and Brad must be in cahoots with each other...:)

This is turn around for Bodo who has written some pretty harsh articles in the past regarding Sharapova

Maybe Sharapova sent both Pete and Brad some free Sugarpova sweets:)

There's only one way Sharapova could win this: Serena goes out early.

Wimbledon has chosen JoKer and Serena as the top seeds.

So, naturally, ESPN put up a pic of Nadal and Sharapova

on their preview page.

“I feel good,” Williams said, when asked whether her past success at the tournament helped ease her mind. “When I came here, I just felt a sense of being home. I really like being here.” Her words seemed to betray her mood, but she did offer one genuine moment of insight into her current psyche.

Asked how long it took her to get over her shocking second round loss to Garbine Muguruza at the French Open, Serena paused. “Who says I was over it?”

Williams plays her first round match on Monday against Anna Tatishvili.

Even then, I don't like Maria's chances on grass.
