Thanks for getting the conversation started, Kieran. :)

It's hard to bet against Serena, yet I said the same before RG, the AO, and Wimbledon last year. I'm stubborn on her, though, so I'm still going to predict she wins.

After her, I'd say the favorites are Sharapova and Halep. But who knows? Last year was such an unpredictable, volatile tournament, which demonstrated anything can happen.

I agree that no matter what, it is just hard to bet against Serena. Especially if she hasn't won a slam. She will be ready to make a point

Yeah, I agree, it's Serena's title, especially since she'll be fresh after an early finish in Paris. I think it's hers to lose. I doubt Sharapova will get so far as the final, and I hope she doesn't. Remember the Olympic final? I think it was a fair reflection of their rivalry, but lousy to watch.

Halep v Serena would be a great match...

After watching today's matches at Eastbourne things are getting interesting. We have two dinosaurs coming back to destroy Wimby. :)
I am talking about Vika who looked good to me even if she lost. Free movement and dynamic play. She will improve after each round in Wimby and become again the player we knew. She will be a threat.

Next one is Kviti! Just saw her first set v Lucie and she looked amazing. Her best tennis in the last year. Fast(!) moving, sharp, mighty shoots. She looked like a potential Wimby winner for me if she keeps this level! I was impressed. You could see all the hard work she put in getting fit. Almost no UFs.

Its great for women tennis to see Vika and Petra back after such a long time.

I cant see Simona winning Wimby but she always does the impossible so who knows :)

One of the biggest questions hanging over Halep at this point is how her head will be during Wimbledon. She just suffered a big loss in the RG final, so will she be able to put that behind her, or will it affect her play in London?

Let's hope it's the former, and she has a successful run. That would be a great sign, IMO, because getting over such losses, and having the ability to move forward so soon after them, is the mark of a true champion.

You have no clue who she is, dont you? :D I am saying that with respect to you. We all have our way of seeing things. You fear that she may be depressed but thats only because you dont know her well enough. She is a huge fighter and very tough mentally. She was emotional in Paris but thats just a part of the whole experience. She takes loses seriously but they make her stronger, not weaker. Players like Kvitova and Kanepi would had "another life" if they were mentally as tough as Simona.
My fear is about pure tennis. Grass is not her best surface. Imo, she is better on hard and clay.

Simona has never advanced to the third round at Wimbledon in three attempts(won Netherlands grass tournament in 2013).I personally feel grass is her weaker surface.

In regards to her defeat at Roland Garos,I remember saying after....sometimes you have to lose a Grand Slam in order to know how to win one.

I like bold honest talk. Sometimes it looks like a bad, disrespectful talk but I will take my chances. :)
So, I am saying again that any attempt to count her career results instead of her last year results is ridiculous to me. We are talking about two different players. I may sound insane because its the same person after all, but tennis wise it really isnt the same player.
I get mad when people count her whole career stats instead of her last year stats. :puzzled :D
She played Li in R2 last year... things are different now.
Ok... I am saying that reaching the last 16 or the QF is good enough result for me but who knows.. and when it happens I will have to respect myself by ignoring the troll here. You know who. I am challenging myself now ;)

^ Well I was just presenting her current stats at Wimbledon to date.
Let's wait and see if Simona can better her result at Wimbledon this year.
I see we both agree it is her weaker surface.

I also feel its a weaker surface, not as weak as rubber carpet but still weak.
On rubber carpet she is not even top 30 imo. She is a sitting duck waiting to be shoot.. :D
But we really need to ignore career stats in her case. She is "another player" since May 13.

^ Stats dont lie:) for any player.............(including your's)

Simona has improved just look at her ranking.

I am not that confident with Simona on grass. If she succeeds with good result at Wimbledon....I will be the first one to congratulate her.

I know that you like her, I wasnt saying that you dont. All I am saying is that stats do lie in her case. Lets agree to disagree on that :)

Trying my best to make my point without being rude :D
Stats are good if they represent a real situation. The question is what is real and what isnt. Its just a comfort zone :p
After each set, they show on tv stats and winners hitting areas... I try to ignore them and remember what I felt during the play.

The good news for Halep is her ranking is high enough to avoid the players she wants to avoid until later rounds. Serena better make some noise here! Her play at the slams has left a lot to be desired so far this year.

What Serena needs is a new challenge. They should make 1 v 2 matches for her.
A one Serena playing against two players on the other side :D
If she plays against cheatpova and Vika she will lose her hearing after one set

What about them? Serena's not exactly quiet on court! I watched Martina playing Zina Garrison in '90 and there was nary a sound; even on shots where they had to stretch! These losers of today shriek on drop shots! It just makes no sense to me! :nono :puzzled

Or, the other players need to learn how to play Serena. Someone who has worked on her game and fitness would be Serena's new challenge.
