I wish Serena would hit to the open court when she comes to net. I have noticed a stupid habit of hers where she hits it back to the opponent. Stop!

That means that Serena isn't a natural at volleying. She should have her butt dropped to get level with the ball and be in a position to punch out the volley. She needs to attack the ball out front. Reference, Martina Navratilova volley techniques 101..

I'm kind of wondering if Sam stosur has a 3rd act coming up soon. She's been steadily improving recently.

Federer does that a lot too. Infuriating alright. Btw to those discussing the time of Sharapova's match versus Serena's, it's still 31C in London now and 34C at the time Serena played so it wasn't any cooler at all than morning/afternoon.

Interesting. No way the complainers would've have known that before registering said complaint. I still think it was an advantage for Serena to play in the eve as she didn't have the sun to contend with.

If the surface was anything else I would say yes. She's never done anything on grass despite having a really good serve and supreme volley skills. She'll get to the 3rd or 4th round and flame out.

AP,

How natural do you need to be to hit into the open court and opposite of your opponent?

I was going to say I thought it was common sense not to give your opponent another chance.

Also, it would be exciting to see Serena win Wimbledon and complete a Serena Slam in line with the 40th anniversary of Arthur Ashe's win.

I just realized that Vika has a tricky draw. Mladenovic and potentially Bencic have had a nice grass season leading up to Wimbledon.

Serena s movement needs work...and the errors are a bit troubling.I think Venus moves better on grass than Serena

Always has. Venus stays low and hugs the ground even though she's taller. Venus also can make adjustments on the fly to compensate for weird bounces.

So far, Serena hasn't played anyone who can make her pay for poor movement. The tough thing about grass is you play the wrong player who has a nasty serve and ground strokes and a match can get away from you quickly. I am glad she has managed to keep it 2 sets. She can't afford any bad starts as matches can be harder to turn around on grass.

That's my point she isn't natural or maybe a better word would be comfortable at volleying. Serena probably just stuck the racket out there without a "real" purpose. If your technique is properly executed, your natural momentum will place the ball where it needs to be. I hope this helps

I have said this before. Serena's net game is weak. She has no clue where to stand or volley. The thing I wonder about is why Venus is so much better at net.
