First blood to Sloane. Takes the opening set 6-3

Sloane is through 6-3 6-3. She was the sharper of the 2 Americans today.

Petra was up a set and 5-3. Now she is in the 3rd set against Coco 3-2

I think the WTA tour is beginning to catch up with up with the less than 60 mph 2nd serve or Errani.

Or maybe the grass just doesn't suit her game whatsoever. The tour didn't work her out in the last 2 weeks since the French Open did they.

Does anyone have an update on Vika's knee? I suspect the worst. That kind of pain usually is indicative of a tear. She could be out for months. With this injury, we move closer to the dreaded Serena vs Pova final. Worse than that, Vika will lose her number two ranking so that we could be subjected to Serena vs Pova finals for the foreseeable future. I am hoping Petra can save us at this tournament, but she is also injured, I think. What a terrible first day.

Well then, Wimbledon has finally started and day 1 had it's surprises and drama. The upset of the #5 ranked Sara Errani (ITA) by the #65 Monica Puig (PUR) 36, 26 was of course the biggest surprise. Who's this Monica Puig anyways?

Varvara Lepchenko (USA) was another seed who was upset by Eva Birnerova (CZE) 26, 64, 46
Else all the other seeds managed to win their matches more or less easy

Link: Nasty fall can't stop Azarenka at Wimbledon
Another drama was the fall of Victoria Azarenka who in spite of seemingly being injured completed her match and managed to defeat #106 ranked Maria Joao Koehler (POR) 61, 62. Hopefully Victoria's injury isn't to serious and will she be able to play Flavia Pennetta (ITA) in R2

I also want to mention Maria Sharapova's next opponent Monica Larcher De Brito (POR) - Doesn't she shriek even worse than Maria or Victoria? Maybe ear protectors can be recommended if you plan to see the match :)

Monica Puig is on my young babe thread. She's been playing well all season and made some noise.

Rumor has it, Larcher De Brito has calmed down some in her screeching. I guess we'll find out tomorrow, won't we? :p

Well hopefully Vika can make it through Wimbledon, it would suck to not have one of the best competitors out there competing.
