The final round of quals is completely washed out today. The matches did not even begin.
All are postponed to Friday.

Also, the draw ceremony is at 10 BST on Friday.

Now that I understand tennis better, I don't say a player should have done whatever. Vika has two slams because she is physically frail. Petra has two slams because she is mentally frail. These frailties are a part of their game, as integral as a good FH or serve or speed.

Despite nearly everyone being far from their best now, I have to stick to my original list of contenders. Otherwise, it is akin to throwing a dart and having it land on the name of the winner at random. Hoping Serena and Petra get good draws.

I don't really see Serena's draw as tricky one (even though her section involves many players who have pushed her before; first she does not have to play all of them; second many such pushes are fluke category. I am sure Vinci or Heather won't be able to replicate such performances). She has Aga for a crushing in SF. However, Aga does not exactly own her quarter considering both Konta and Kvitova are in there too.

Venus got a break. I don't see anybody stopping her from reaching QF. I also see the same situation for Garbine. They both might actually meet each other at QF.

Serena's issue hasn't really been the rounds before the final though....her draw looks fine to me.

It may be an all Williams final this year.

The final round of quals is over.

Tamira Paszek and Kumkhum won. Goodluck to them in the main draw.

I really want Serena to win to remain at #1. Yes, #22 and #7 Wimbledon is nice, but consecutive weeks at #1 will also help with Serena's legacy and add weight against Graf.

Consecutive weeks at #1 is lot more important as if she misses it now, she surely will not get another chance to break that record. About #22, I am sure that she will get plenty more attempts to get there.

However, I believe Serena can be #1 even if she loses the Wimbledon. But, if she loses both Wimbledon and USO, she will not be #1 anymore (most probably). But, I think she needs to be
#1 till end of September (or is it middle) to beat that record.

I think it is the end of September I think the 26th. Hopefully, Aga, Kerber and Muguruza help her out here and have worse Wimbledon's than her. The way Mugu, Kerber and Aga have been in their play this year it is highly possible.

Lisicki is no match for Petra. The door has closed for the German. Sad to see Petra and Serena meeting before the final.

Tignor has spoken. He is going with Mugu.

But, I agree with his picks of Aga and Keys for making semifinals. In the first quarter, while I agree with him that Serena won't make it (I expect Serena to go out early this time unlike the last two GSs; most probably to either Heather or Kristina in the third round), I don't think Timea will win it. I expect Coco to win the 1st quarter. The last quarter will definitely be won by either Venus or Mugu as both have easy path to reach QF and I predict it will be Venus. However, unlike a typical WTA girl who loses in the first round of the next slam event after winning a slam, Mugu will go far (maximum a quarterfinalist) before folding.

Aga defeats Coco in one semi and Keys defeats Venus in the other. Aga defeats Keys and lifts the trophy after beating a couple of mindless ball bashers in succession. That is my prediction for this year.

I can go with Radwanska and Keys. I think Mugu will feel like Kerber did after her win pressure and all eyes on her. I don't think Serena is going to go without a fight. She was pretty pissed at herself after Paris, and I expect her serve to be more of a factor here and not to breakdown on the surface as much. We will see how she is feeling after the first few rounds and I love how people are like well Heather and Kristina gave her a tough match in the past, so they will again. I don't see it that way at all. I think Serena will be expecting it. She always seems to remember those players, but sleeps on someone she takes for granted.

Side note: Tignor has some of the most convoluted logic in his picks and writing.

You are right. Serena usually loses to an unknown commodity as opposed to someone who is known to be dangerous. So, may be she will lose in the fourth round or in the second round to McHale.

.... or better yet to Amra Sadikovic in 1st round, whose name I have not heard before and who is ranked 148. But, then she won three matches in a row at Roehampton in the quals (taking out a #2 seed in one of them) and so it is not as wild as one may think. :devil

Mugu will not win Wimbledon. She cannot do channel slam at such an young age. But, she is a big girl and so she won't go out meekly in the first round either (especially, since she has already done that in Mallorca and vented off the pressure of expectation).

Oh I don't think the pressure will be off because she lost in a know nothing tournie in Mallorca all eyes will be on her. It isn't something she can avoid coming off a big win and #2 in the world.

Well - I know it'll not be a slam as predicted - then it should be the first this year. The WTA tour is crazy and seeds are falling in most tournaments. That's because the game is tougher on the womens side, you have to be spot on even against players outside top 100. I think we'll have a surprise winner in Wimbledon - not that I don't like Serena having her triumph, but she's not on top. Saw a couple of her matches in FO and she was like an old diesel engine - which caan be good up to 1 million kms but no she'll be out before the quarters IMHO. Caroline is not there yet even if she's been playing well she still needs the final 5 grams. I'm impressed by her play when she's not tired - it's flawless tennis and some of that comes from her new coach David Kotyza. This coach will stay behind her. Caroline started in Nothingham as a rusty player coming back from a severe ankle injury and is getting better and better and are now after 6 grass matches ready for Wimbledon, and iI hope she'll get a few rounds there. If she plays like she did against Stosur 61 62 she can get far. Who wins Wimledon - aint got the faintest idea - PUIG?

FACTOID: Of the past eight first-time women’s Grand Slam champions, none have made the quarter-finals in their next major.

Kerber (first round), Flavia Pennetta (retired), Marion Bartoli (retired), Victoria Azarenka (fourth round), Samantha Stosur (first round), Petra Kvitova (first round), Li Na (second round) and Francesca Schiavone (first round) all fell early.

p.s. Mugu plays Camila in the opening round (this is expected to be the second match on the center court on Monday) and the H2H between them is 1-2. :devil
