3 surfaces is nice but you're talking green clay and then grass and HC. I'm sure Roger wouldn't complain if they had it on grass a few years. And Fed won 5 straight, that's the argument for him. A 6th would make it a moot point, time for him to win another. I like world domination when it's coming from the proper source B-)
And I'm sure that Rafa wouldn't have minded if they kept the USO on clay. There is really no "moot point" in tennis arguments across generations. And you've already admitted that dominating a Major gives extra points, in your opinion, so you "appreciate" world domination, wherever it comes from, even if it makes your blood boil.

I like the thread even though I agree that they will never rename the cups, nor should they. I'd say AO and RG have the obvious "kings" since Nole and Rafa have won the most there respectively. Wimbledon has 2 candidates and USO has a few. Even though Roger has arguments as the king of both I'd call a tie a tie for now. Hoping he becomes the king of both with 1 more victory at each...yeah I'm greedy.

Federer made extra finals to win the tie breaker (same number of wins) so he should be ranked above Sampras for Wimbledon.....making finals and/or exiting earlier should not be seen the same.

Safe to say Rafa should own RG though, what's the chance that anyone in future can win 10 of those? or even come close to? for most players it's a career (age 20-30) to be in the main draw at RG for 10 times, 10 titles is almost beyond belief.

There's nothing wrong with saying that. And if we go on that Connors and Sampras hold the tiebreak over him at USO.

As of today with Federer's win at Wimbledon taking his 8th title, I guess we can say he stands alone and should own that cup; at least have it renamed after HIM! :D  :yesyes: :ptennis:

One down, one to go...
:lulz2: Fair enough. I still don't think Wimbledon is gearing up for a name change soon on their trophy, but I do think they could give him the life-size version like the RG one that Nadal got. They usually get a little one.

Credit when credit is due, Nadal deserved more since 10 > 8, and 10/6 (ratio to the second place) is quite more than 8/7. Maybe someone should tweet Federer that he´ll only get a big one if he wins two more (just to give the man some motivation).

I'm a dummy...you lost me on that one.

Nadal won RG ten times, the second place (Borg) won it six times. Federer won eight times, second place Sampras won 7 times.

10/6 > 8/7
1,6666 > 1,143

In other words, Nadal won RG ~67% more than the second place on the list, while Federer won "only" 14% more than the second place on Wimbledon´s list. This difference, IMO, is more significant than 10 to 8.

OK, I'm not sure how I was supposed to jump to that, and now I'd don't feel so dumb. :) Thanks for the clarification. Since everyone is feeling so generous today, I also don't think it will seem sour to point out that Rafa has the higher winning pct. on his preferred surface. We'll take our advantages where they come. ;-):

In my defense, when we had this discussion before, I already stated that 10 RG´s are more impressive than 8 Wimbledons (at the time, it was 9 to 7).

About the winning percentage, that´s a bit different. There are more clay matches (with less matches, the statistical weight of a random loss is higher), and also as said before, grass is more prone to upsets than clay. So, even if Nadal´s percentage on clay is higher, given that they are close I am not sure what I find more impressive.

I don't make you feel that you need to defend yourself. You give credit where it is due. I was speaking general purposes about my making the claim on such a Fedfan holiday. I get your point about smaller statistical options on grass, but clay is a 3x longer season, with many clay specialists lurking, as opposed to grass, where there are relatively few. Also, the top players only tend to play each other in 1 event on grass, whereas they usually play 2-3 MS and RG on clay, so the quality of competition is better, in the aggregate.

^Fair enough. We could go on discussing about surface dominance, but, as you said, it is a good time to feel magnanimous.

And no time to be a pill. So I won't.
