Things would be a lot easier if they just do away with this award. This is tennis. Sportsmanship is not that out of the ordinary. I can hardly count cases of REAL sportsmanship in the past, say, 10 years, on one hand. I honestly don't recall too many incidents in which a player did something so amazing they deserve recognition for it in the form of an award.

I completely agree! It reminds me of the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award which is nothing more than a popularity contest. Very little to do with actual sporting achievement

I don't think anybody would suggest it wasn't awarded for sporting achievement last year. First male British Wimbledon Champion in 77 years.

Rory McIlroy is winning it this year. He's had a phenomenal year.

Yeah they sound like like completely different awards. "Sports Personality of the Year" would imply something like a popularity contest. It would be weird if James Ward won that, for example. In contrast, Sportsmanship implies some sort of higher level ethical behavior, which should be reserved to players in the top 15...

I disagree with the bolded part. Why should sportsmanship award be limited to folks in top 15.
It should go to anyone who shows admirable ethical behavior that goes beyond the call of
a typical player.

Sorry, I was being sarcastic there. I agree with you. Text has no tone it turns out, haha.

That's how great Federer is: The single tear rolling down to his lustrous chin won him an award... :clap

Deserving win for Federer in what is clearly, absolutely, 100% not a popularity contest

They give out cards with the names of the nominees, you have to select one player, sign that card and give it back. So they know who everybody voted for. Great idea!:snigger
