Just because a couple of violets somehow find seed in a pile of manure, doesn't negate the fact that it's mostly manure.

I'm about the only poster here who posts about tennis constantly. Almost everybody else is part-personal-attack/part-tennis. I think the key is I accept everybody's opinion regardless of how much I disagree. I won't change my opinion just to suit others, but I also won't ask others to change their opinion. Just remember, opinions aren't worth much (every human on earth has an opinion on something). So don't feel offended if your opinion doesn't have any impact on another.

BTW, this thread is about the factors behind Djokovic's sudden rise to dominance in 2011 and sudden fall in early 2012 (and continued fall in 2013).

LOL, just have a look at threads about players retiring, will Fed get to the WTF, how will he perform in 2014, etc. What exactly makes you think you're the only one who constantly posts about tennis out of interest?

No, but make sure you like the violets for what they are - it's better for your nose! ;)

Because look at all the posts throughout this forum that make no mention of tennis, and are just one poster trying to offend another. I play the ball, while others play the man.

Djokovic at least needed to beat a rusty Nadal at Roland Garros to convince me. Failed. And then when Djokovic couldn't do any better than a breadstick 4th set loss at the US Open (Djokovic's favorite surface), pretty obvious that Nadal owns the future. Nadal will be even more difficult to beat next year at Roland Garros. I have confidence that Dimitrov can make the future interesting at least, but it'll take a few more years depending on when Nadal declines or when Dimitrov arrives mentally.

Ok guys fess up, who liked 6 of this guy's posts? Does his mom post on here?

You can add GameSetAndMath to that list. Moxie and Kieran 4 times in total, how surprising...

Hello there Denisovich! :)

Meantime, Mastoor has 25 likes - inexplicable! And look at who likes these posts, how surprising, etc.

So what was the point of pointing out "likes" again? I musta missed it somewhere along the way... ;)

I haven't read through the thread, but the OP seems to be based upon a false premise - that Djokovic is a "declined" player, as if he fell from greatness to merely goodness, when in actuality he fell from amazingness to just garden variety greatness.

Novak is still a great player. Nadal may be better, at least when healthy, but that's hardly a knock on Djokovic.

It happens - players have a best year and then come back to earth. Djokovic's level in 2012-13 is higher than it was in 2010 and before, so it isn't like 2011 was a fluke. It was a career year from a great player. He's going to win more Slams and is still probably the most consistent player on tour.

Oh yeah, don't forget he beat Nadal in the last tournament.

Djokovic should be able to win some best-of-3 matches over Nadal (he did that before 2011 too), but the question is at the slams. Even when Djokovic was on a roll, he needed 6 hours to beat Nadal at the AO. And Nadal has won their last 3 slam meetings.

Very difficult to win slams now that Nadal is back, and Murray has arrived. Even Wawrinka looks like a threat now to Djokovic. I wouldn't even pencil in Djokovic for the AO.

I think part of what makes Djokovic great when on is his fearlessness in his shots, but that also is what makes him go off because when he isn't doing so consistently that is when he has those close matches or loses. The US Open was a prime example of that. I was actually embarrassed for Djokovic. Nadal was giving him so many looks at second serves, and he failed to punish Nadal for it.

No you don't. You gloat from your perceived throne about Nadal's greatness, belittling everyone he beats, claiming he'll win up to 22 slams, saying Murray only won the USO 2012 because he didn't have to play the great Nadal (newsflash: you can't play him if he doesn't enter the tournament), talk nonsense about wanting to see Fed struggle these days because it makes you happy and much to the annoyance of fellow Nadal fans you want to see him struggle on his best surface?! I forgot the endless threads of Nadal is the best and Federer is just inferior, blah blah, Djokovic's had only one great year according to you and it's most likely all down to Nadal, in your eyes. Excusing his losses due to injury, he's a warrior by winning hopping on one leg. The best of all the past few weeks of course has to be Nadal saving himself for Shanghai because he clearly didn't want to exert too much energy in Beijing. You could just see it in his eyes! I'm sure that match really exhausted Djokovic too and he'll be far too tired to do well in Shanghai. I could go on but frankly I couldn't be bothered.

But yeah, you play the ball by starting endless threads about Nadal's dominance and no one will beat him in 2014, etc, but you desperately fail to realize you're also playing the man with the ball...that is, offending/annoying all fans of other players besides your favourite. Not cool. :nono

Oh and guess what. The results of your poll are not swayed towards "all Nadal". We're not all blind.

Ah my friend, I would rather smell the violets in the field of flowers (as I do when reading your posts), rather than the few violets growing in the midst of dung, where their fragrance is completely compromised by stench... :snigger

There's an interesting point about all this partisan stuff - we're all guilty, I agree with that. But I never congratulate fans when their player wins, partly because it's absurd - I mean fans of both sides sit on their arse beered up and cheer, so what's to congratulate? We haven't contributed a single thing to the match. Most of us don't even get the opportunity to attend matches and cheer in person.

But also, we watching fans all believe the same thing, but of different players. If I was a Djoker fan - and it's not such a leap, I mean, have to be a fan of somebody, right? - I'd have likes on Mastoor's posts, I'd attack Rafa fans with gusto, I'd be exactly the same as I am - with just a different player to cheer.

And yet none of the players even know I exist. Or you, or you.

So while it gets heated up and barmy, that's grand, and I engineer this stuff myself, I think we should all recognise one thing we have in common: partisan rabid fandom towards our own and an irrational resistance towards other equally great players - and their similarly afflicted fans. It's funny, innit?

I belittle everyone Nadal beats? :laydownlaughing

So now its a crime because I predicted Nadal would win 18-22 slam titles? You forbid that do you?

Your problem is that you think you have the right to tell me what to think. Isn't it enough that you have an opinion for yourself? I don't mind what you think about Murray (you can tell me Murray is a better player than Nadal, or whatever you want) but there is no way in the world you will ever stop me from giving my opinion on Murray.

And how in the world can you get away with telling me what I want to see? There is nothing better than watching Nadal play a 5-setter. If you can't appreciate that....no problem....but don't forbid me from appreciating it. And again with Federer.....I have never found him entertaining, but when he is hustling for every point and being challenged (btw, sport is all about challenges) of course its far more entertaining than when he was cruising (this applies to every player in the history of tennis). Again, if you don't agree, no problem. But don't forbid me. Just be happy that you have an opinion on tennis that is your own.

I refuse to hear this Irish false modesty;). You don't behave like the above poster and you darn well know it.

Excellent post Front but I think you're wasting your time.

Some fans don't know the difference between 'fact' and 'opinion', 'could have' and 'would have'.
