What does Novak have to do to be truly in the Fedal conversation?

Considering where Nole came from, what he had to deal with on court and off court, I think he can't be compared to Fedal who have always had better conditions for developing their skills, better sponsors, better media coverage. Even his health issue was discovered by pure luck, if that didn't happen in 2010, all this conversation would have been futile. Yet many tennis experts think very highly about him and his tennis, some using the best ever for some aspects of his game. How many good, talented players showed their promise but were never able to really realize their potential? I am glad that Nole was able to, even if in some people's eyes it is not enough. Yeah, he will never be Fedal, but I don't want him to. I want him to be his own, unique self, setting standards in tennis and outside of tennis.

Nole is already 2nd on the all time list of top 10 wins in his career, which will only climb up. His whole career for most of his titles he had to beat either Fedal or Murray. Now they are not as good, my gosh I would say they are still way better than some of the previous competition we had.:snicker

Can someone tell me how many GS Rafa has missed due to his injuries?

Real, imagined, or excuses? :dodgy: :p - Has to be a lot; won't ever threaten the record books in consecutive slams competed that's for sure!

Lol! I doubt that you don't enter a slam for 'imagined' reasons

If he wins the calendar slam (this year or next), he's already up there. Short of that, he has to keep winning slams and masters until he passes Nadal.

Agreed, If he wins a calendar slam he will be a tennis immortal. It's the most difficult feat in tennis. He'll automatically be in the conversation.

I suspect he'll end up in that conversation anyway barring injury. He's an all time great already and will only add to the resume.

If Novak won the calendar year slam, he could retire on 11 slams like Borg, and nobody could consider him to be lesser than anybody. There's some things which are just too perfect to be argued with...

Don't mind Fiero, Carol. One of my favourite posters, but he belongs to the school of Fedfan who gloats with delight when Rafa gets injured.

Rafa has missed RG (2004), Oz (2006 and 2013), Wimbledon (2009), US Open (2012 & 2014). It's a lot...
