I like your opinion not only for the balanced ATP competition, but also for bringing the WTA competition in-line with ATP. The talk about equal wages in ATP & WTA continues because if women get the same wages now, they should also play the same tennis as men do, i.e. best of five at all majors. So, to be more precise, if you want that MS1000's finals go back to BO5, then so should WTA Premier finals.
I don't think that's a 1:1 equation, but I like your thinking. To me, it's that they play same format at same events. I've already said what I like for Majors, but say a co-ed event like Miami or IW: bo3 for all until final, the bo5 for all for final? Something like that.

I would want the majors left as is with five set matches from the beginning to end.

I would like to make all the ATP 1000 finals five set matches.

I would like the semifinals and finals of WTF changed to five setters.

I certainly, don't want to see women play five set matches. It could become a torture, especially when neither of them want to win.

Do we really need all of the 7 matches of the Majors for men to best of 5 sets? I would ask why. The early rounds are generally as torturous as women's (as you claim) in Bo5. And I would also ask, if you don't want to make any of the women's bo5, then do you still disagree they should get paid the same? Think about it. I don't think it's about time on the court, but for all of those who keep complaining about "equal work," if you're not in favor of it letting women play best of 5 matches, you don't get to complain.

Do you realize that if the early rounds were best of three, then Rafa would have lost to Isner in the first round at Rolland Garros in 2011? :lulz2::rolleyes::nono:

So what's your point? Hard to read it. Maybe you don;t like that BO3 in early rounds would "cost them 'Borg-like' players"? So what? If Borg-likes cannot adjust their playing to this format, other players who can, will come in. Tennis as a sport does not lose anything.

It devalues it as a major! BO3 is for everyday events like Exh. Football or early season games! Later on, esp. during the playoffs it only makes sense to make it harder to make sure the best man wins! BO5 has saved many a star in the past & will continue to do so!

Just what I've been saying! I seem to remember some German kid by the name of Brandt extended Nadal to the limit at the FO early as well! To make Nadal's life difficult, you'd think I'd agree to undermining history going BO3, but I wouldn't change it even in the odd chance Rafa could be knocked off by some no name player barely ranked in the top 100!

And 2007 and 2010 Wimbledon. I'm suddenly liking the idea..well Roger would've been out in 2012 Wimbledon and 2009 RG so uhh nevermind.

In all seriousness I don't think they should mess with majors at all. Keep it best of 5 for all 7 matches.

You have to have an odd number. Four could create a draw.
Oh! O.k. & it's not acceptable for there to be a draw in tennis like it is in other sports as I was told earlier this year when I said matches should be timed & was in the firing line just because timing could create draws. I get you.

Can wta players play the same level (quality) of tennis? Case closed for equal pay, the rest is all manipulation by some clowns.

An ATP player gets paid the same whether he wins in 3 sets, 4 sets or 5 sets. Federer didn't get docked last year for the short time period played as he mopped up the floor with the weeping coprse that was Cilic in the Wimbldon final

It's never been about time on the court as if the pay is figured on minutes played basis.

It's only a matter of time; Television contracts/revenues will probably dictate that the Majors make early rounds best of 3, nothing to do with quality or equality, much less the welfare of the players.

Fed would have stayed in Wimbledon longer this year with best of 3...

Well if they started doing it in the QF stage he wouldn't have. If it was only best of 5 in finals (which would be awful IMO) he'd have been good this year, 2011 Wimbledon and 2016 Wimbledon, not to mention 2010 and 2011 USO...well you know why I always get a good laugh when the commentators talk about Roger as a good front runner. I think they are still stuck in 04-07. He has blown a ton of opportunities from commanding positions, pretty impressive he still has won quite a bit after 2007 in spite of that.

If Nadal is playing I don't mind if the match is 100 sets long. It would be more amazing tennis to watch.

Welcome Nadalfan2013! I hope you have fun here.
Relax & enjoy yourself! Be of good cheer.
Most people are nice here so there's nothing to fear.

If you don't like someone's comments there's the ignore function which makes life on here bliss.
You don't have to read comments you don't like in order to read those you don't want to miss.

You can't have 100 sets if I can't have 4.
It could commit the cardinal sin of causing a draw.
A draw would be criminal as I've been told a few times before.

I hope you don't mind the rhyme.
I find myself thinking in rhyme some of the time.
It's a good job it's not a crime.

it was best of 3 in Cincy and he lost in 2 in final...I don't think 3 or 5 can make win anyone, the best'll always win that's all
