It's refreshing to watch Rafa moving so well and striking the ball so cleaning. It's a good sign to see him driving the bus by dictating with his fh instead of giving the bus driven over him like Kei did in Cincinnati. Bravo and Vamos Rafa .

You're kidding right? If not for Chardy's UFE, I think Rafa would be in serious trouble! I see nothing that impressive yet; except maybe his rushing between points! Someone must have told him to speed it up! :p  :dodgy:

Its funny Cahill and PMac just said the same thing I said about Rafa's play.. but what do they or I know, you are tennis expert 2nite

You can't take those people seriously! They are being paid to be positive and produce good TV! I suppose you revere John McEnroe enough when he thought Rafa was the GOAT several years ago! He's been dismissed as a tennis expert IMO! I've been around longer than any of them! :nono  :dodgy:

The commentators on Sky Sports seem convinced that Nadal would still beat Fed here, or at least give him a lot of problems in that match. As I have already said, Nadal almost certainly won't reach the QF, and even if he does, he will put like 5% of Roger's serves back in play and provide us with a double fault galore. It would be interesting to see that match, how anxious would Rafa get? :cover

It might be what the doctor ordered, a battle vs Federer(however Rafa has quite a deal of work to do before that can happen, IMO).

I'm betting one or both won't get there! You can forget about a Fedal rematch; been a while since the last! :nono  :dodgy: :cover

Well well not so fast.. If Rafa and Fed hold serve on Thursday, your title as TF's favorite soothsayer may be in jeopardy

I agree with you AP. I think we will indeed have a Fedal match this year (hopefully with a different result than their 2013 Cincy encounter).

So only Anderson and Lopez stand between a Fed-Rafa match. Saw the last one I ever wanted to see in the '14 AO SF so will be rooting for Anderson and Lopez tomorrow. Either one will do.

Meh, Nadal didn't play that well. The forehand is just so pedestrian. The surface at Cinci never took his spin well anyway, but he's dropping the ball so short and when he's looking for depth he's looping it. The backhand is also too spinny (he normally flattens it out more on hards). Honestly, no signs to be encouraged about. Forehand DTL still MIA.

Watch videos of him playing in Cinci in 2013 for reference, and compare how much more ferociously he was hitting the ball.

Yep, but you left off that weak serve; actually double faulting on MP! How can anyone think "Rafa's back?" :cover :nono

Well, surely you can't compare him to his 2013 self, but on the other hand this is a safe bet for his better 2015 self. A Fedal right now would be a very good measurement of both men's form. I don't see either one winning the whole thing (I guess Federer has fair better shot, tough), but if anyone does it after a win against his old rival, it will surely be a heavy boost in morale.

The next couple of years could be Federer's chance to make the H2H vs Nadal look a bit more decent. What is it now? 24-10 or something? Maybe he can finish their rivalry at 20-25 or so. :snicker

Andy served like a donkey last night and struggled to steel himself, I can see Grigor getting the better of him tonight. Hope I'm wrong but it doesn't matter too much if he loses, he got what he needed from his US open preparations last week.

I agree TF7. He could lose this one. It might be better for him to just go out early and get rested and ready for the USO. No need really to break his back to beat Federer and Djokovic in a row.
